Full time
Yet another loss for the defending champions and their campaign is just refusing to take off. They started the game brightly but were not clinical in the attacking third. It was Modou Sougou's 20th minute goal which gave Mumbai City FC the lead and eventually that proved to be enough. The second half action was a case of plenty of mishits from both sides. The Super Machans got a golden opportunity to equalize in the 62nd minute but to their bad luck, Carlos Salom's attempt hit the post. There were a couple of moments in the game where Chennaiyin FC could have got a penalty but lady luck seems to be eluding them. The Islanders will be delighted at the moment after achieving their third win in the last 4 games and now find themselves in the fifth spot, tied on points with FC Goa, Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC, and behind only on goal difference.

Sehnaj Singh misses!
A corner from right taken by Paulo Machado. He hangs his cross right at the face of goal and Sehnaj jumps to win the ball. However, his header goes wide of the target.

Golden chance missed!
Mumbai City FC should have been 2-0! Arnold Issoko fetches the ball from the midfield and makes a run forward from the right flank. He sees the run of Modou Sougou inside the box and smartly passes it in his path. But Modou fails to trap it cleanly in the first attempt and then gets crowded by the Mumbai defense. The replays suggest that Sougou probably was off side there but it wasn't called. Would have become a talking point had that gone for goal.
52'
Wayward
Very poor. Chennaiyin FC get a free kick from just outside the box but Carlos Salom hits it wayyy over the post. Not sure what he was trying!

Mumbai City FC nearly double their lead. Rafael Bastos passes it to Modou Sougou inside the box who tries to hit it at the far corner. But Karanjit Singh is alert as he makes the stop.

Second half begins...
We're underway again at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Chennaiyin FC set the ball rolling. Let's football...
Halftime
There goes the halftime whistle and Mumbai City FC head into the break with a 1-0 lead. Chennaiyin FC though were the better side at the start as they looked quite dominant. But it was the Islanders who got the first goal in the 20th minute when Modou Sougou slotted one in on the rebound. Post that, both teams got plenty of chances but were quite ordinary in the attacking third. The defending champions once again find themselves on the back foot this season and let's see whether they can bounce back from here or not. Do join us in a short while for the remaining action.
45'
Added time
2 more minutes added to this half. And it starts with an altercation between Modou Sougou and Carlos Salom. Hmm...things heating up.
41'
Orlandi is livid!
Andrea Orlandi shows his skills to beat his marker at the right flank and then tries to make a surging run inside the box from the right. Subhasish Bose puts his left foot out and brings down Andrea Orlandi right at the edge. The Spaniard wants a penalty but the ref shows no interest. Well, that was close. Mumbai City FC should be feeling lucky.
38'
Good block
Chennaiyin FC trying their best. They build an attack from the left through Andrea Orlandi. He tries sending the cross inside the box but meets Lucian Goian's head, who makes the clearance with ease. The Mumbai City FC's defense has been sound, so far.
32'
It's Amrinder's turn to catch
An attack from Chennaiyin FC. From the left. Jerry Lalrinzuala swings it inside the box, right at the face of goal but Amrinder Singh does well to collect the ball.

20'
GOOOALLLL
Modou Sougou breaks the deadlock. And this goal has come against the run of play. Chennaiyin FC were looking more dominant but it's the visiting team who have their noses in front. Beauty of a pass, this. Rafael Bastos does extremely well to nudge the ball forward to free Sougou up. He barges inside the box and then shoots on target. Karanjit Singh dives across to his left to make the stop but to his bad luck, the ball once again falls to Modou on the rebound and this time he slots it at the far post. The defending champions once again are on the back foot.

Jerry Lalrinzuala, from the left, loops in a good delivery inside the box but Lucian Goian is equally up to the challenge and heads it out for a corner. Isaac Vanmalsawma takes it and curls in an inswinger but Amrinder Singh tips it out for another corner. Nothing substantial from that set-piece.

Greetings
Time for Match 27 of the Indian Super League 2018-19 and Chennaiyin FC are all set to lock horns with Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The defending champions have failed to recreate the same magic like the last season and are lying at the bottom of the points table. Their defense has been leaking goals while the strikers have not been at their best. As a result, they are experiencing the worst start to their season ever and are in need of a big turnaround. The Super Machans will be up against Mumbai City FC who have shown inconsistent form so far. They suffered a humiliating loss against Goa but then bounced back to topple Delhi in their last game, thereby showing true character. The Islanders would like to build some momentum from hereon and get all three points from this encounter. Their away form has not been too promising but given Chennaiyin's sorry run, they will be the favourites this evening. The action will begin shortly at 1930 IST.
