77' Colombia's Juan Quintero steps up to take a free kick from a promising distance, but he gets far too much underneath the ball and sends his effort sailing high over the crossbar. A disappointing attempt, and Ghana will restart play with a goal kick.

75' Ghana's Alidu Seidu brings down an opponent while trying to steal the ball. As a result, referee Clement Turpin shows him a yellow card. This is fourth yellow card of the match. 

Ghana's Thomas Partey wastes a good opportunity of hitting an equalizer. He gets on the end of a rebound just outside the penalty area and fires a shot narrowly wide of the left post. It is a close call for Colombia, but the ball goes out of play and they restart with a goal kick.

57' Oh No!!! What an unlucky moment for Colombia as Luis Diaz almost gives them their second goal of the day. Diaz receives a perfectly weighted pass from Jefferson Lerma inside the penalty area and keeps his composure to slot a low shot into the bottom-left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. However, the celebrations are cut short as the linesman signals off-side as the scores remain 1-0 for Colombia.

They are targeting a third appearance in the Round of 16 and hoping for third-time lucky given their two previous encounters with South American opposition in the World Cup knockout stage both ended in defeat, against Brazil in the 2006 Round of 16 and Uruguay in the 2010 quarter-finals.

Argentina, the reigning champions, needed extra time to get past Cabo Verde 3-2, a debutant side that refused to go quietly at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The "Blue Sharks" became the smallest nation ever to reach the knockout stages, and they pushed Argentina all the way; however, Argentina booked their place in the Round of 16.

Colombia are having a flawless campaign. They unbeaten so far at the FIFA World Cup 2026, having defeated Uzbekistan and Congo DR and drawn with Portugal and their aim now is to reach the Round of 16 for the fourth time.
