The mood in Berlin was nothing short of robust as a whole nation celebrated a triumph which came after 24 years.
The fans had reason to party, and why not? It was their first World Cup since 1990 and that two over traditional rivals Argentina.
While the players celebrated on the pitch, the fans took to the streets in Brazil and Germany to display their show of solidarity behind their team.
It was a generation ago that Germany last won the tournament and the younger crowd now had something to remember and believe in as afar as football is concerned for the rest of their lives.
The expectation was high at all times from the fans and as the match progressed, a sense of anticipation came over them.
When Germany took the lead with 7 minutes left in extra time, their joy new no bounds as there was mass hysteria in every German camp all over the world.
Once the final whistle was blown, the wait was over and the fans poured out into the streets to share this momentous occasion.
Be it in Berlin, Rio or New York, Germany supporters were exulting in joy al over the world. The greatest sporting event of the year was over but the celebrations would go on late into the night and the wee hours of the morning.
