If Zindane was the creative influence in the midfield then Thierry Henry (seen in white in the picture) was the striking force in France's team that won the 2000 championship. He scored three goals in the tournament and was his country's top scorer. His equaliser in the semi-final against Portugal was instrumental in earning France a place in the final. Henry was voted man-of-the-match in three games including the final against Italy which France won in extra time.
The Euro 2004 was not a special one for Henry as he managed two goals and started in all of France's games. The Euro 2008 too was a sad one for Henry and the French side as they bowed out in the group stages itself. Henry missed the opening game and scored France's solitary goal in a 4-1 drubbing that the Netherlands gave them.
His handling of the ball to score a goal against Republic of Ireland during FIFA 2010 World Cup playoff was severely criticised as France went through to the final tournament. But Henry has always denied being a "cheat" as he pointed out that referees were to do their job and not him.
He retired from international football after a disastrous FIFA 2010 World Cup campaign. Currently he plays for the New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer, USA.
