With Chelsea ninth in the Premier League table, Frank Lampard became the latest head coach to face the boot from owner Roman Abramovich, on Monday. Having guided his club to a 4th Round FA Cup win over Luton Town, fans were left disappointed to see their club legend join the bandwagon of managers getting sacked by Abramovich. In a statement released by the club, the billionaire revealed that it was a very difficult decision due to their personal relationship. A former England and Chelsea midfielder, Lampard joined Chelsea as head coach on July 4, 2019.
Fans were left shaken with the news, considering the legendary status of Lampard in the club. The 42-year-old joined Chelsea after starting his managerial career with Derby County.
Despite Chelsea's poor form, fans took to social media to pay their tributes and hailed Lampard. One fan tweeted, "Gone but NEVER forgotten. He will forever be a Chelsea legend and an example for all the players that play and will play for this club."
Meanwhile, another fan pointed out the impatience portrayed by the Chelsea board. He tweeted, "Not even trying to banter but this is stupid. Patience is a virtue your board should learn from. Long term lampard would've been a great manager and your patience would've been rewarded. Now you're probably going to get short term success and be back to square 1 in a few months."
Meanwhile, one certain fan had a humorous take on the situation. He quipped, "Roman Abramovich was like, "On my Lampard I'm so Frank".
Here are the other reactions from fans on Twitter:
Lampard had a successful career with Chelsea as a player. Joining them from West Ham United, he won three Premier League titles with the club. Other than a UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League title, he also won four FA Cups, two League Cups and a Community Shield trophy.
