As per reports, Team India will not be playing a direct practice match. Instead, the batters and bowlers will be given situation-based challenges to achieve during the match. Team India are reportedly aiming to get each bowler at least 15 overs per day.

KL Rahul slammed a century in India A's second unofficial Test against England Lions, and seems to be in good touch in the intra-squad match too. Rahul is India's most experienced batter in England, and will have a crucial role to play as opener.

Many Indian fans will be nervous about Jasprit Bumrah's fitness, but the early signs are encouraging. The fact that he is featuring in the intra-squad practice match could indicate that he will play the first Test between India and England.

Remember, he is the No. 1-ranked ICC Test bowler. His presence will hugely boost Team India.

Despite the match taking place behind closed doors, there seems to be a few fan-shot visuals from the India vs India A practice match. KL Rahul seems to be in action, with Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah in the outfield. NDTV could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Some reports are suggesting that it is Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad who is leading India A against India in the intra-squad match. However, NDTV has been unable to verify it completely yet. Important to note that the match is being played behind closed doors.

Gaikwad has led India A in the past as well.

Not only Shubman Gill, but other seniors of the Indian team like Rishabh Pant will also be under the scanner in this intra-squad practice match. Pant is the new vice-captain of the Indian Test team, and will be expected to play a key role in the England series. 

Pant will look to find some rhythm in this match, after a poor IPL 2025.

This India vs India A practice match will also help the team decide their bowling attack for the first Test against England. Surely Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will play, but the third pacer and whether there will be one or two spinners are key decisions that will need to be taken. Crucial game for the likes of Kuldeep, Nitish Reddy, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh and Washington Sundar.

The India vs India A practice match will also be Shubman Gill's first instance of red-ball captaincy in English conditions. With no more practice matches planned for India, this intra-squad match will be crucial for Gill to adapt to his new role.

The likes of Sai Sudharsan will need to impress in this India vs India A match if they are to seal a spot in the playing XI for the first Test against England. Karun Nair has already slammed a double hundred, and that will solidify his claim for the playing XI.

"We've got a great variety in our attack of guys with different skill sets. So, you know, can they do that and still execute the basics very well. All in all, very happy with the start so far. I was a little bit nervous in terms of the lack of red-ball [cricket] we've played, but seeing how the guys are moving around and training the last three days, it's a pleasing sight. In Gambhir's absence, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assume the team's charge during the four-day intra-squad match between India and India A. He will have assistance from other coaching staff such as bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. Gambhir is expected to return to England in a week's time if everything goes well at his home.

The players and support staff who are part of the the intra-squad game between India and India A in Beckenham are wearing black armbands to pay homage to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash.

A PTI source said that Gautam Gambhir had to fly back to attend to his mother, who has been admitted to a hospital in New Delhi owing to health complications. "Yes. He's gone back (to India) for a family emergency," said the source.

India Cricket head coach Gautam Gambhir is returning home from England due to a family emergency, according to ANI. Gambhir travelled to England last week with the squad to bolster their preparations for their upcoming five-match Test series assignment in England, which begins on June 20 at Headingley.

The Indian team has toured England with a new Test captain in Shubman Gill. In the absence of veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of who have retired from the format, the five-match Test series will be a huge challenge for India.

In order to prevent England analysts and coaches from crafting their plans against the Indian players, based on their performance in the intra-squad match, head coach Gautam Gambhir decided to make it a closed-door affair. Gambhir has adopted a European football strategy to prevent England from gaining any advantage.
