New Zealand (197) recorded their third lowest score at Basin Reserve against India - their two lowest scores being 100 in 1980-81 and 186 in 1967-68.
India gained a first innings lead of 182 - their biggest ever at Basin Reserve. In the 1967-68 Wellington Test, India had made 327 in response to New Zealand's 186, leading by 141 runs and winning the Test by 8 wickets.
Zaheer Khan has produced his seventh five-wicket haul - his third against New Zealand.
Of his seven five-wicket hauls, six have been recorded by him away from home.
Zaheer became the first Indian bowler to bag five wickets in an innings twice at Basin Reserve. In the 2002-03 Wellington Test, he had claimed five wickets for 53 runs.
Zaheer is the only Indian speedster to capture five wickets in an innings in New Zealand three times. No other Indian medium-pacer has claimed five wickets in an innings more than once.
Apart from his two five-wicket hauls at Basin Reserve, Zaheer had claimed 5 for 29 in the 2002-03 Hamilton Test.
Zaheer is now the second Indian bowler to bag five wickets in an innings three times in New Zealand. Erapalli Prasanna had taken five wickets in an innings at three different venues - once each at Wellington, Dunedin and Auckland
Ishant Sharma (18) registered his second best score in Tests - his highest being 23 against Australia at SCG in January 2008.
Ishant and Patel put on 32 runs - India's best for the tenth wicket against New Zealand at Wellington, bettering the 31 between Bishan Singh Bedi and V.Subramanya in February 1968.
With Jesse Ryder's dismissal on 3, Sachin Tendulkar remains the highest scorer in the series with 335 runs, followed by Ryder (327).
Gautam Gambhir became the third batsman in the present series to have made 300 runs - 306 at an average of 76.50.
Gambhir is the only Indian player to have recorded 300 runs or more in the last four Test series.
Chris Martin (4/98) has produced his best figures against India, bettering the 3 for 89 at Napier.
Daniel Vettori, with his 11 off 13 balls, has taken his run-aggregate in the series to 205 (ave.51.25) - his second best performance. In the 2007-08 series against England in New Zealand, he had made 230 at an average of 46.00.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first Indian wicketkeeper to take six catches in an innings.
Overall, Dhoni is the second Indian wicketkeeper to effect six dismissals in an innings. Syed Kirmani was the first to acheive the feat - 6 (5 ct. + 1 st.) against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1975-76.
Dhoni is now the third wicketkeeper in Test annals to register a fifty and effect six dismissals in an innings in the same Test match, joining two wicketkeepers from South Africa - Dennis Lindsay (vs.Australia at Johannesburg in 1966-67) and Mark Boucher (vs. Pakistan at Port Elizabeth in 1997-98).
Dhoni is now the third Indian wicketkeeper to have effected 5 dismissals or more in an innings twice - the first two being Syed Kirmani (vs.New Zealand and vs. Pakistan) and Nayan Mongia (vs. Pakistan and vs. South Africa). Budhi Kunderan and Kiran More have achieved the feat once each.
Harbhajan Singh (3/43) has produced his best bowling figures at Basin Reserve, bettering the 2 for 33 in December 2002.
Harbhajan's tally of 12 wickets at 23.58 runs apiece is his best performance in a series against New Zealand.
Overall, in ten Tests against New Zealand, Harbhajan has claimed 29 wickets at 32.58 runs apiece.
