Cape Town, South Africa:
South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn has been cleared by the Indian Premier League after testing positive for morphine while playing in the tournament in May.
Proteas team doctor Mohammad Moosajee said Steyn returned a positive test while playing for the Bangalore Royal Challengers because he was taking painkilling pills containing codeine that converted into morphine in the body.
Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola said Wednesday: "The authorities are perfectly satisfied with the explanation that Dale has provided and they have confirmed that no offense has been committed."
Steyn had reportedly been taking a relatively high number of painkillers because of migraine headaches and a broken thumb.
