Faf du Plessis says that they needed the win to keep the series alive. Is happy that they made less mistakes. Credits Thisara Perera for playing a great knock. Lauds the effort by Hashim Amla to play the anchor role. Adds that you take losses in your stride but they were disappointed with their performance last night. Is delighted that the bowlers executed their plans well and hopes that they do well in the final game.
Sarfraz Ahmed starts by crediting the opposition, especially Amla for the way he took the game away from them. Feels it's a good learning for the young bowlers on how to bowl in pressure situations when you have someone like Amla batting. Reckons their sloppiness in the field cost them the game. Opines that yorker is fruitful at the death but at the same time you need to hit the right lengths by varying your pace.
Man of the Match, Thisara Perera is really delighted that he was selected for the World XI side. Is short of words and is extremely happy with his contribution. Credits Amla who asked him to keep his calm at the start and cash in at the right time. Once again emphasizes that it was a dream come true for him to be a part of the World XI side.
Pakistan will rue the fact that they were really sloppy in the field and the missed chances didn't help either. Agreed, they did well at the start but in such a crunch game you just can't hold back. The spinners once again kept it tight for them but the fact that Shadab Khan went wicketless should be a worry for them. Rumman Raees and Sohail Khan couldn't stop the rampage at the death as they wilted under pressure. Overall, it was a cracking game of cricket. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony...
Thisara Perera's heroics have done it for the World XI! 47 from just 19 balls, just one dot ball. Kudos to him! Chasing 175, the visitors got off to a good start. Hashim Amla decided to bat through and when that happens, the opposition is always in trouble. He scored a breezy 72 and remained unbeaten. He kept on stitching partnerships in the middle, but his unbeaten stand of 69 with Perera sealed the deal for his side and leveled the series 1-1.
to Thisara Perera
SIX! Game, set, match! Thisara Perera, you beauty! Everybody is feeling the pressure but not him. Full toss from Raees, a gift in context of the game, Perera gets under it and just dumps it over the head of the bowler for a biggie. He is delighted that he has got his team over the line. World XI win by 7 wickets!
Sarfraz Ahmed comes over for a chat with his bowler.
to Hashim Amla
Shorter in length, Amla pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single. 6 needed in 2 balls. Will Perera go for glory?
In the air but safe! Raees bowls a length ball around middle, Amla looks to go big but gets it off the toe end. The ball falls in no man's land near mid on. Two runs taken. Amla is down on his knees, tired. 7 needed in 3 balls.
Full and wide outside off, hit to long off who does well this time to keep them down to a single. 9 needed in 4 balls.
Very full around off, Perera drives it through mid off. The fielder in the deep, Shadab Khan misfields and allows the second run. Sarfraz Ahmed is not happy since Khan is not even getting to the ball. Two runs taken.
WIDE! Pressure, pressure! Raees bowls it outside off, very wide, Perera lets it go. A wide signaled.
Final over of the game. Can Raees defend 12?
Sohail Khan to Thisara Perera
Just a single off the final ball. Very full, Thisara could only jam it out towards long off. He'll keep strike. 20 off the over! 13 needed from the final over.
SIX! That's clubbed! Pakistan now look clueless! Khan serves a full toss on middle, Perera clears his front leg to slog it away. He connects and connects well to thump it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a maximum. 19 already from the over!
Dropped! Malik is the culprit! Fuller length delivery on the stumps, Perera chips it down towards long off. Shoaib Malik gets across to his left but spills it out. To make matters worse, they run two. It's all happening here in Lahore.
Yorker on the stumps, jammed past the bowler down the ground for a brace.
Wide! Pressure! Slower ball, slanting away, Thisara still goes after it but misses.
A better throw was needed! Fuller again on the pads, whipped uppishly towards deep mid-wicket. Shadab Khan throws it at the wrong end, the striker's end since Amla was tiring at the bowler's end. Two runs picked up.
