Mohamed Farveez Maharoof Profile

A tall, lanky and an open-chest fast bowler, Farveez Maharoof first made an impact at the Under-19 level. Sri Lanka's selectors were amazed by his performances as the Under-19 captain and fast-tracked him into the national squad for the Zimbabwe tour as a move to look towards the future.

Maharoof has worked his way up through the ranks to get where he has today, playing for Sri Lanka at the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level, and has led the Under-19 team on four tours, including the 2004 Youth World Cup in Bangladesh. Since his debut in 2004, he has cemented a strong place in the side with some astounding bowling performances like the one in the Champions Trophy in India, along with a useful series against Pakistan in 2006. His nagging persistence around the off stump line with the ability to move the ball makes him a dangerous bowler to face. The tall right-hander has a sound batting technique which helps him to adapt in different batting situations. “Fara” is also capable of hitting some lusty blows down the order.
