Seekkuge Prasanna Profile

This leg-break bowler from Balapitiya went on to have an impressive first-class debut in 2006, when, as a 21 year-old, he collected figures of 3 for 23 in 10 overs for his side, the Sri Lanka Army.

Prasanna is also a handy right-handed batsman, which makes him a complete all-rounder. However, his expertise as a bowler was showcased over the next few years as he bagged 73 wickets in 45 List A matches at an outstanding average of 18.38. Consequently, he was given his chance in the Lankan A side that toured England in 2011. Prasanna did not fail to impress, as he picked a six-wicket haul that was immediately noticed by the selectors, who then fast-tracked him into the national side for the remaining ODIs against Australia in the same year. His Test debut followed in the same series. He however went wicket-less in the only Test that he played and subsequently was dropped from the Test squad.

In 2012, he was signed by Uva Next for the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League, and was also a part of the Champions League T20. After a bit of a lull, Prasanna was then recalled for the 2-match T20I series at home against New Zealand on the back of some impressive performances in the List A series against New Zealand A and a T20 series against Kenya for Sri Lanka A. He however, did not play a single game in that series. His T20I debut came in December 2013 against Pakistan in Dubai where Sri Lanka retained their no.1 ranking. In the format A dasher with the bat as well as a leg-break bowler, Prasanna has a very bright future and if Sri Lanka are to make headlines in the T20I World Cup next year, he will play an important role in their progress.
