A livewire on the field and a fearless striker with the bat, Shamim Hossain brings energy and flair wherever he plays. A left-handed middle-order batter known for his aggressive intent, Shamim made his mark early with Bangladesh's U19 team that lifted the ICC U19 World Cup in 2020. He made his first class debut for Chittagong Division in the 2017-18 National Cricket League. The following year he made his List A and T20s debuts.
Hossain made his T20I debut for Bangladesh in July 2021 against Zimbabwe and showed promise with his ability to accelerate in the death overs. In the third game of the series, he scored 31 off just 15 balls to get Bangladesh over the line and help them secure the series 2-1. He was also named in the 2021 T20 World Cup squad. Though he hasn’t cemented a permanent spot in the national side, his fearless approach and ability to clear the ropes make him a valuable asset in the shortest format. In 2023, he made his ODI debut in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan and announced himself on the big stage by hitting a six on his very first ball.
Shamim featured in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), turning out for teams like Chattogram Challengers and Rangpur Riders. His quick cameos and electric fielding have made him a fan favorite, and he was part of the Rangpur Riders squad that made a strong run in the 2023–24 BPL season. As he matures, a more defined role could help unlock his full potential on the international stage.
