The Indian Under-19 team's quest for an unprecedented fourth World Cup title came to an abrupt end, when they were stunned by West Indies team. Keacy Carty, Keemo Paul played a mature innings, putting on unbeaten 69-runs stand for sixth wicket to help Windies clinch the trophy for the first time since its inception.

India got off to a horrendous start. In-form Rishabh Pant was stumped in an unusual manner with West Indian keeper Tevin Imlach showing presence of mind to fox the Indian opener, who was standing out of his crease while leaving an away going delivery.

Ishan Kishan, who has had a poor Under-19 World Cup, ended his disappointing run in the tournament when he was adjudged leg before wicket off Alzarri Joseph. Replays however showed that the ball had pitched outside the leg-stump.

Sarfaraz was the lone exception as he saved India the embarrassment of being bowled out for a sub-100 total with a fifth fifty plus score in six innings, also making him only one to score most half centuries (7) in the history of the tournament. Sarfaraz's 89-ball effort comprised five fours and a six.

In reply, the West Indies made heavy weather of the chase. Chasing the modest target, the Caribbeans were not off to the best of starts as both their openers -- Gifron Pope and Tevin Imlach -- were dismissed with just 28 runs on the board.

Keacy Carty, then joined hands with Keemo Paul to guide the ship for Windies with a match-winning unbeaten stand of 69, to guide them home. Carty in the process competed his half-century and in his 125-ball knock, he hit two boundaries. Paul meanwhile, remained unbeaten on 40 with one six and a boundary.

Rightly, Keemo Paul hit the winning run to spark wild celebrations. West Indies captain Hetmyer praised his bowlers in particular for toppling the favourites. "We weren't supposed to be champions but we came out on top. The pacers used the pitch to their advantage, they stood out for us. Carty and Paul are aggressive players, they made the adjustment. They kept a calm head."

Indian skipper, Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, blamed his side's poor catching for their defeat. "The bowlers bowled in the right areas. In the fielding, we were good in the beginning but we dropped crucial catches," he said.
