20 years ago cricketing maestro Sachin Tendulkar graced International cricket for the first time. Since then he has established himself as the backbone of Indian cricket, given opposition nightmares, reached a demi-God status, and has pretty much done it all. Cricketndtv.com takes a look at some of his accomplishments and the legends that he surpassed to achieve them.

Sachin Tendulkar has played the most number of Test matches for India(159) which is far ahead of Kapil Dev and Rahul Dravid who have played 131 Test matches each.

Sachin is just 10 Test appearances away from breaking Aussie Steve Waugh's record for the maximum number of Test matches played by any cricketer in the world. Steve Waugh retired with 168 Test caps.

The Little Master also holds the record for maximum number of Test runs with 12773 runs. Sachin surpassed West Indian Brian Lara in 2008 to achieve this feat. Lara retired from Test cricket with 11953 runs in December 2006.

Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are the fastest to score 10000 runs in Test cricket. Both these cricket greats took 195 innings to achieve this record.

In April 2009, Sachin broke Brian Lara's record of maximum number of Test runs away from home. Sachin currently holds this record with 7165 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar was the second Indian to score over 10,000 runs in Test cricket after Sunil Gavaskar. He also became the first Indian to cross the 11,000 Test runs mark taking 223 innings to achieve this.

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 1000 or more Test runs in a calendar year on five different occasions. This is a joint record with Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting.

In December 2005, Sachin overtook Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test centuries. He still holds this record with 42 centuries and is being closely chased by Australia's Ricky Ponting who has 38 centuries under his belt.

Sachin scored 5 Test centuries before turning 20 years old. More than 15 years have passed by, yet his record stands intact.

He also hold the record for the maximum score by an Indian captain while captaining India. He achieved this against New Zealand in the 1999/00 season scoring 217 runs. Sunil Gavaskar held the previous record of 205 runs when he scored them playing against West Indies in the 1978/79 season.

Sachin Tendulkar is also the third person to score centuries against all Test cricket playing nations. Before Sachin, Australia's Ricky Ponting and South Africa's Gary Kirsten were able to achieve this record.

During the course of his illustrious career, Sachin has made a number of ODI cricket records as well.

He is the leading run scorer in ODIs by a big margin with 17,178 runs. Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya follows next with 13,377 runs.

The Little Master also holds the record for the maximum number of centuries in the 50 over format of the game. He has 45 centuries to his credit which is miles ahead of his nearest competitors, Sanath Jayasuriya and Ricky Ponting who have 28 centuries each.

Sachin also managed to bag the Man of the Match award a record 60 times which is quite far ahead from next in line, Sanath Jayasuriya's 47. Sachin also holds the record for the maximum number of Man of the Series awards with the count standing at 15.

He currently is second in the world with the most number of ODI caps at 436 ODIs. Sril Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya leads this category with 441 ODI caps. Although Sachin was the first cricketer to appear in 400 ODI innings.

Sachin has also scored a thousand or more runs in a calendar year for a record seven times. He did it in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2007.

He has also managed to score over 1000 runs against all major cricket playing nations.

Sachin is also the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs taking just 259 innings to do so.

Sachin is the only batsman who has scored over 2500 runs against any one cricket playing nation. In fact he has achieved this feat against two nations- Australia and Sri Lanka.

He also became the first cricketer on the planet to score 200 runs in an ODI.
