Rahul Dravd, also known as The Wall, has been given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards 2011 for his services to the Indian cricket.
"I was always grateful for the opportunity to represent India," Rahul Dravid said after receiving the award from BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar told Dravid: Youngsters can learn from you. Please keep playing. Dravid announced his ODI retirement after the recently concluded England tour.

A look at Dravid's cricketing journey

Here's a look at the amazing journey that The Wall undertook in his illustrious ODI career.

The 1999 World Cup was the ultimate high in Rahul Dravid's ODI career. With 461 runs to his credit, he finished as the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

Rahul Dravid has been known for his defence but the greatness of any cricketer is defined by his adaptability to the requirement of the team. Rahul Dravid showed that he was up for the challenge as he scored 145 runs off just 129 balls with 17 fours and one six staging a 157-run win over Sri Lanka in the 1999 World Cup.

Partnerships have always been the speciality of Rahul Dravid and it is no surprise that he was a part of the top 2 highest partnerships in limited overs cricket. His run-a-ball 153 run innings against New Zealand comprised of a 331-run stand with Sachin Tendulkar staging a mammoth 174 run win. The partnership stands to be the best till date.

Rahul Dravid has a tendency of delivering the goods when it matters the most and he did just that as he scored 109 runs to help India register the third highest run chase of 325 runs against the West Indies in Ahmedabad in 2002.

Doubling up as a wicketkeeper and batsman, he was part of Sourav Ganguly's regime that led to the resurrection of Indian cricket in the 2003 World Cup. Dravid top-scored in the crucial win against England and struck unbeaten knocks to guide India home against Pakistan and New Zealand. He finished with 318 runs, 15 catches and a stumping.

During the Pakistan tour in 2003-04, Dravid was instrumental in India winning the ODI series. He top-scored in the five ODIs with 248 runs.
Zoom
During his captaincy tenure, India broke the 14-match West Indies record for most consecutive successful run-chases in ODIs. For this 17-match run, Dravid was the captain for 15 games while Sourav Ganguly was captain for the other two.

In Feb 2007, Rahul Dravid joined the 10,000-run club in ODIs against Sri Lanka.

In 2011, to save India's sinking ship in England, selectors looked to their only guiding light in the Test series. Rahul Dravid was brought into the ODI side to boost the middle order. The Wall however, later clarified that he had no intentions of continuing to play in the shorter format of the game and announced he will retire after the series.
Zoom
At a time where India were desperate to make a mark on the international circuit, Dravid was dropped from the side in 1998, but only to be picked back in the next two months.
Zoom
Rahul Dravid's attacking avatar in ODIs did not please Allan Donald, who racially abused him after being hit for a six during his quick fire 84-run innings. The South African fast bowler however, mentioned it in his autobiography and said that the incident happened in the heat of the moment.
Zoom
In January 2004, Rahul Dravid was found guilty of ball-tampering during an ODI against Zimbabwe at Brisbane. TV cameras caught him rubbing a cough lozenge on the shiny side of the ball. The incident was reported to match referee Clive Lloyd, and he was fined 50 per cent of his match fee. Later, India coach John Wright defended Dravid, stating that "It was an innocent mistake".
Zoom
The 2007 World Cup was by far the most devastating moment of Rahul Dravid's ODI career. Under his captaincy, the team lost to Bangladesh and consequently bowed out of the World Cup in the Group Stage.
Zoom
Despite playing a few match- winning knocks in the ODI series in England (2007), the selectors were ready to invest in the youth. Dravid was axed from the ODI squad after few failures against Australia in September 2007. He wasn't picked again until August 2009.
Zoom
The World Cup debacle not only stripped Dravid of his captaincy, but he was dropped from the team as well. The selectors chose to bring up a young breed of cricketers to build a sustainable future for the team.
Zoom
Dravid returned to the ODI squad in 2009 but the revival was shortlived as he was dropped again after two months. Dravid was primarily picked to help the young Indian team tackle the bounce in South Africa (Champions Trophy 2009).
