Rahul Dravid wins NDTV's Lifetime Achievement Award

Rahul Dravd, also known as The Wall, has been given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards for his services to the Indian cricket.

Rahul Dravd, also known as The Wall, has been given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards 2011 for his services to the Indian cricket.

"I was always grateful for the opportunity to represent India," Rahul Dravid said after receiving the award from BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.

In 2011, to save India's sinking ship in England, selectors looked to their only guiding light in the Test series. Rahul Dravid was brought into the ODI side to boost the middle order. The Wall however, later clarified that he had no intentions of continuing to play in the shorter format of the game and announced he will retire after the series.

In January 2004, Rahul Dravid was found guilty of ball-tampering during an ODI against Zimbabwe at Brisbane. TV cameras caught him rubbing a cough lozenge on the shiny side of the ball. The incident was reported to match referee Clive Lloyd, and he was fined 50 per cent of his match fee. Later, India coach John Wright defended Dravid, stating that "It was an innocent mistake".

Despite playing a few match- winning knocks in the ODI series in England (2007), the selectors were ready to invest in the youth. Dravid was axed from the ODI squad after few failures against Australia in September 2007. He wasn't picked again until August 2009.

The World Cup debacle not only stripped Dravid of his captaincy, but he was dropped from the team as well. The selectors chose to bring up a young breed of cricketers to build a sustainable future for the team.

Dravid returned to the ODI squad in 2009 but the revival was shortlived as he was dropped again after two months. Dravid was primarily picked to help the young Indian team tackle the bounce in South Africa (Champions Trophy 2009).
