The third season of the Indian Premier League unleashed some hidden bowling talents on the one hand and cemented the position of the bowling icons on the other.
Pacers and spinners alike, wickets were bagged in every game in an awe striking manner with the middle wicket falling prey to the ball on many occasions.
Pragyan Ojha of the Deccan Chargers was adjudged as the best bowler of the season by the viewers as well as the jury in the first IPL Awards Ceremony.
He managed to send a total of 21 batsmen back to the pavillion that made him the highest wicket taker and the winner of the purple cap.
Here is a look at the best bowling performances of this season.

Pragyan Ojha
Standing tall against the others in the race, Pragyan Ojha has surfaced as the best bowler in the current season of the Indian Premier League.
Taking whopping 21 wickets in the tournament, Ojha also won the prestigious Best Bowler Award in both the viewer's choice and the Jury award category at the IPL Awards.
His best bowling performance came against table toppers Mumbai Indians (3/26) and this Deccan Charger ensured that his team's bowling was as strong as the batting.
Probably the front-runner among India's upcoming left-arm spinners, Ojha has converted the promise he showed at age-group levels to first-class level too. (PTI Photo)

Harbhajan Singh
The Turbantor did it again! Harbhajan Singh turned the batsmen off their wickets to steal the slot for the second most successful bowler in the IPL.
Despite having played just 14 matches in contrast to his competitors, Bhajji took 17 wickets this season and struck at the times that completely reversed the fortunes for his side.
Representing Mumbai Indians, Harbhajan's presence was extremely significant for his team not just with the ball but with the bat too.
Responsible for giving his side a series of victories, Harbhajan's best bowling performance came against the Deccan Chargers taking 3 wickets and giving away 31 runs. (Getty Image)

Amit Mishra
Delhi's hopes of making it to the top four might not have materialized but Amit Mishra made it to the top 3 bowlers of the Indian Premier League.
Equalling Harbhajan's tally of 17 wickets, Mishra was one of the most successful bowlers for the Delhi Daredevils. Having attained the 3-wicket haul twice in the current season, it was his bowling performances that salvaged Delhi's hopes in the matches when they had completely given up.
A confident and attacking cricketer, Mishra strikes with legbreaks and the odd fizzing googly. At his best on dry pitches, he has taken wickets by the bagful in this season. (PTI Photo)

Anil Kumble
Experience it is after all that says it all. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain took 17 wickets in this season.
Two 3-wicket hauls to his credit, his best bowling figures were 4/16 against the Deccan Chargers that were also the second best in the tournament.
Kumble won the IPL Award for the 'Best breakthrough performance in IPL 2009' for his five-for-five against Rajasthan Royals.
One of the most painstaking and tenacious cricketers in the history, this tall wrist-spinner has played the dual role of leading his side as well as the bowling attack in a commendable manner ensuring a berth for them in this year's Champions League. (PTI Photo)

Vinay Kumar
Another Royal Challenger who made it to the best bowlers list is Vinay Kumar.
What was striking about this bowler is the fact that he is the only one in the list to have three 3-wicket hauls under his belt.
Kumar initially relied more on outswingers, legcutters and accuracy, than on outright pace but soon developed an inswinger as a variation to his stock.
His best bowling figures were 4/40 against Chennai Super Kings. His doggedness eventually paid off and a successful start to the IPL season 3 where he took 16 wickets won him a spot in the India squad for the World Twenty20 in 2010. (Getty Image)

Lasith Malinga
Probably the fastest bowler in Sri Lanka, Malinga's presence in the Mumbai Indians accentuated the side's already explosive set up. His yorkers made the batsmen hop around this IPL as they struggled to pick up his ball's trajectory.
The fiery Sri Lankan bowls with a distinctive and explosive round-arm action that generates genuine pace. He devastated Kings XI Punjab by picking up 4 wickets and conceding just 22 runs.
Despite the fact that Malinga has a propensity to bowl no-balls, he is a genuine strike bowler, with both new ball and old and took 15 wickets this season. (PTI Photo)

Irfan Pathan
Irfan Pathan was his side's diamond as the others in the Kings XI Punjab camp struggled to make a mark for themselves.
Pathan picked 3-wicket hauls twice and his best figures were against Delhi Daredevils when he conceded just 24 runs and swallowed three of their best batsmen.
Considered by many, with reason, as the most talented swing and seam bowler, Pathan tried to put up a brave front for his side and even enabled them to establish some thrilling victories. He took 15 wickets in all this season.
Possessing energy coupled with a composed nous, Irfan's instinct is not merely what to bowl to who and when, but also to keep learning new tricks. (Getty Image)

Dale Steyn
During the third season of the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Dale Steyn became a force to reckon with. A genuinely fast bowler, who moves the ball away from right-handers, Steyn sprints to the wicket and hurls the ball down with aggression.
If this extremity is not enough, Steyn has a snarl ready for the batsman post his delivery.
Sending 15 batsmen back to the pavillion this season, he made his way to the list of the best IPL bowlers. This South African's best performance came against Deccan Chargers when he struck thrice and conceded merely 18 runs. (PTI Photo)

Ryan Harris
This right arm medium pacer charged up his side, Deccan Chargers, on innumerable occasions.
An eye-catching all-rounder, Ryan Harris became quite a sensation in the third season of the Indian Premier League so much so that he made his debut in the IPL Zeitgeist 2010 as one of the most searched IPL players on google this year.
The Australian conceded as little as 233 runs this season when veteran bowlers like Anil Kumble and Irfan Pathan conceded 400 plus runs. He took a total of 14 wickets this season and his best bowling figures were recorded against CSK when he trounced three of their batsmen and conceded 18 runs. (Getty Image)

Kieron Pollard
The most expensive player to be bought in this year's IPL auction, this West Indian made sure that he was worth the price that the Ambanis doled out to make him a part of the Mumbai Indians squad.
Pollard surfaced as one of the most powerful players of the Tournament and was acknowledged as the best debutante by the Jury in the IPL awards.
Dangerous with the bat as well as the ball, Pollard's very presence sent chills down the spine of his competitors. He recorded a total of 14 wickets in IPL 3 and his best bowling figures were recorded against Royal Challengers Bangalore when he devastated their side, 3/17. (PTI Photo)
