Cook continued on his great start as he smashed a century against Pakistan in Lord's to herald a promising future.

Cook's stature as a batsman increased during the 2011 Ashes in Australia. He slammed three centuries and scored 766 runs in the five-Test series as England secured a 3-1 series win to secure their first win in Australia after 24 years.

The Ashes was regained on Australian soil and England were on top of their game thanks to Cook's exploits.

The England skipper was the main difference when the team toured India in 2012. Cook slammed three centuries in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Kolkata as England won the series 2-1 to register their first win in India after 28 years.

Cook was in poor form after his exploits against India but he silenced his critics by slamming a century against West Indies in 2014.

After a lull in his batting, Cook responded in style by smashing 263 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2015.

During the second Test against New Zealand in Leeds in 2015, Cook became the highest run-getter for England in Tests, going past his mentor Graham Gooch's mark of 8933 runs.

It got better for Cook in the Ashes against Australia as he retained the urn with a 3-2 series win. With three Ashes triumphs and the first to get to 10,000 Test runs for England, there are more laurels in store for the current England skipper.
