He had to stay out there and did exactly that. This was bowled quicker and flatter around off, William, who has not scored a run since morning, senses an opportunity to get some runs here. Goes for the cut, the ball though turns back in, misses the bat and disturbs the stumps. Tried playing against the turn there, never a good idea on a wicket which is providing some assistance to the spinners. Pakistan now though will look to take the remaining two quickly.  254/8

The opener is not fully committed to the shot as he is only half-forward. He may have been expecting another bouncer but it wasn't to be. He goes for a drive, the ball takes the outside edge and goes towards Southee at third slip, who takes another excellent catch. Sohail probably should have left the delivery but he throws his bat at it. The ball takes the edge and goes into the mitts off Watling. He takes it, appeals and the umpire raises his finger. This is bowled very full on off, Azam tries to jam it out with a close face of the bat. He manages to hit it onto his boot and then the ball rolls onto the stumps. 132.1 OUT! Suicidal from Pakistan. There was never a second run in that! Sarfraz sits down disappointed with that call. The ball is taken on the full and played to deep mid-wicket. Yasir is slow on his first run and even slips a little while turning. Sarfraz calls him back for the second and the tailender couldn't say no. He is well short of the crease as de Grandhomme fires in a quick, flat throw at the non-striker's end. Even a desperate dive couldn't save him here. Pakistan are throwing away their position of absolute superiority in this first innings.  346/8

A short ball, around middle, Ross has been looking to attack right from the time he arrived, so he does not bother to restrain himself. Goes after the pull but cannot quite keep it down. Gets a bit of a top edge which balloons in the air but hang on, where is Bilal Asif going? The ball is coming straight to him at deep square leg but he misjudges the catch. He comes running in but then goes back and has to adjust. Leaps and almost lets the ball slip out of his hands but thankfully for Pakistan, the ball sticks! Big wicket for the 'hosts.' 110.4 OUT! Colin de Grandhomme holes out! He though has done a decent job for his side and his partnership with Nicholls has provided the much-needed impetus. He tries to repeat what he did on the last ball, goes down on one knee and goes for the slog sweep. This time though does not get the distance and Bilal Asif in the deep takes an easy catch.  334/6

6.4 OUT! Bowled 'em! The Professor is knocked out early in his last Test innings. A beauty from Southee to dismiss him. Absolute peach. Southee comes from wide of the crease and angles it in on off, it straightens up once more and this time it's enough to beat Hafeez's defense. It goes past the outside edge and knocks the bails over. An 18-year long career comes to a close. He walks back to a standing ovation from the crowd. Acknowledges their support and raises his bat in appreciation. He'd have liked to do more obviously, but he can be happy on the whole with the kind of career he's had.  19/1

11.3 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! There goes the centurion of the first innings, there goes Pakistan's stalwart and that too cheaply. Colin gets the better of him with a beauty! This is on a length and around off, it is angled into the batsman first. Ali plays the original trajectory. It though pitches and moves away enough to take the outside edge. Watling behind the stumps accepts an easy catch. The away side is ecstatic as it is right on top here. 8 wickets more for them to take and another 67.3 overs left in the day.  32/2

17.3 OUT! William Somerville strikes! The bowling change has worked wonders and New Zealand can now sniff a series win here in the U.A.E. They are only 7 wickets away. Another ball which is tossed up outside off, this though is bowled slower. Sohail left the last two but this time he decides to play it. The ball, however, turns away slightly, takes the outside edge and goes towards Taylor at first slip who takes it on the second attempt.  43/3

17.4 OUT! That is off the glove! Two in two for William Somerville and Pakistan now are in deep, deep trouble. The other centurion from the first innings bags a golden duck. Prodigious use of the review from the Kiwis. Not the best of deliveries to get a wicket but Somerville won't care. This is down the leg side, turns further down and also bounces a touch extra. Shafiq tries to flick and the ball goes off something to Watling who collects it well by moving swiftly to his left. An appeal follows, not a confident one by the bowler but Watling is very sure about it. The umpire shakes his head. Watling wants it to be reviewed and Williamson does so. Ultra Edge shows that there is a spike as the ball passes the glove. The on-field call has to be overturned. New Zealand now 6 wickets away with around 61 overs to go. 54.5 OUT! Azam is dismissed immediately after getting to his half ton! New Zealand now only a wicket away. Babar's patience gave away there. He comes down the track and tries to go big. He however, makes the mistake of trying to play across the line. The ball takes a top edge and goes high up in the air towards mid off. Southee there runs back and takes a very good catch.  150/9

35.4 OUT! TIMBER! The skipper perishes. He was playing with fire and got burnt here. Never a good idea trying to play against the turn on a wicket which is providing good assistance for the spinners. He has done that well till now but this time he has been dismissed in trying to do so. Somerville bowls this quicker and just outside off, Ahmed goes back and tries to guide it late through short third man. He has played this shot quite often today. However, this one turns back in sharply, misses the bat and hits the leg stump. 3rd wicket for Somerville and his 7th in the game. It has been a dream debut for him. 49 OUT! Loose shot from Bilal. He's paid the price. Despite Babar being the pure batsman here, Bilal has faced the majority of the deliveries in this partnership. New Zealand took advantage of that and worked him over. Good length delivery outside off, Bilal looks to drive but gets a thick outside edge and it goes behind to Watling who takes a comfortable catch. Pakistan lose their seventh wicket.
