London:
The International Cricket Council today announced setting up of its first ever Global Cricket Academy in Dubai Sports City.
ICC President Ehsan Mani said the Academy would be a key element in the ICC's aim of nurturing talent and developing cricket globally.
"The Academy will be an outstanding resource for the ICC and our 92 members to use to continue the growth of the game," Mani said in a press statement.
Expected to be finished by 2007, the Academy will boast of enough facilities aimed at helping cricketers and others associated with the game to develop their abilities.
Apart from indoor and outdoor training facilities, the Academy will also have access to a 30,000-seat cricket stadium.
Abdul Rehman Falaknaz, Vice-President of the Emirates Cricket Board, said the facilities would help in "nurturing and developing junior cricketers throughout the UAE, GCC, African and Asian countries."
According to the ICC statement, the Cricket Academy is only one more in a league of world-class partners to be part of Dubai Sports City - the world's first integrated purpose-built sports city.
Others such as the Manchester United Soccer School, Ernie Els Signature Golf course and David Lloyd Tennis Academy have already committed themselves to be part of the 50 million square feet area earmarked for the development of a multitude of sports. (PTI)
