Mumbai's road to the final

The Mumbai Indians have made it to the knock out stages of IPL for the first time in three years. They finished at the top of the tree with 22 points in the league stage. This is how their season has unfolded so far:

Match 1: The Mumbai Indians beat the Rajasthan Royals by a slender 4 runs margin after surviving a venomous Yusuf Pathan onslaught. Earlier, youngsters Rayudu and Tiwary scored half centuries under pressure to set a fighting total.

Match 2: It was a vintage batting display by the the Mumbai skipper as Tendulkar rolled back the years at the Kotla to propel his side to a massive 98 runs victory.

Match 3: The Mumbai batting failed to fire as Steyn and Vinay Kumar triggered a collapse. A patient knock by Kallis made sure that Mumbai doesn't achieve a hat-trick of wins.

Match 4: The little master top-scored with an unbeaten 71 to win it for MI with seven wickets in the bag.

Match 5: Chasing a big target of 180, Shikhar Dhawan and Tendulkar gave the Mumbai side a solid foundation upfront. Pollard and Bravo then produced the fireworks towards the end, hitting a six to levels scores to take their side to a five-wicket win.

Match 6: Deccan looked to have restricted Mumbai until Harbhajan Singh decided to show his skills with the bat. An explosive 49* gave the Mumbai innings a much needed impetus and the Navi Mumbai crowd made sure that Deccan had no home advantage. Mumbai won by 41 runs

Match 7: With all Mumbai bowlers hammered around the park, Malinga bowled an inspired spell to restrict Punjab to 163. With things looking tight, Tiwary and Sathish played quickfire cameos to take Mumbai home.

Match 8: Mumbai Indians chalked out their fifth consecutive win as Tiwary and Rayudu batted fluently to set up a formidable total. The bowlers then ensured that Deccan were never in the chase.

Match 9: Mumbai crashed to a 24-run defeat as none of the batsmen except Tendulkar fired. Chasing 166 to win, the batting collapsed completely as Mumbai lost their second match.

Match 10: On the threshold of booking a spot in the semis for the first time, Mumbai collapsed to their second successive defeat as the Punjab batsmen fired for once to chase down 154.

Match 11: Rajasthan's fabled home record was broken by the Mumbai Indians, with Tendulkar coming good once again with the bat and leading his side to a 37-run win.

Match 12: Kieron Pollard came into his own as he decimated the Delhi bowling by scoring 45 runs in 13 balls and came back to effect two run-outs on the field to sink the Daredevils

Match 13: Mumbai Indians avenged their loss to the Royal Challengers earlier in the tournament by winning this contest. McLaren, Rayudu and Duminy set up the game for MI - the bowlers kept it tight to restrict RCB to 134, and MI romped home by 57 runs

Match 14: With their place in the semi finals already sealed the KKR almost out of contention for a semis berth, Mumbai made wholesale changes to the line-up and ended up on the losing side at the Eden Gardens.


Semi-Final

MI defeat RCB: Sachin Tendulkar didn't fire and it was all down to the youngsters as RCB struck early. Rayudu and Tiwary steadied the ship and a late flourish by Pollard took the Mumbai total past 180. Pollard came back to pick 3 wickets and seal the tie in Mumbai's favour.
