Man of the Match, LOKESH RAHUL says that he enjoyed batting a lot today. Says he couldn't get his eyes off the ball and couldn't be complacent. (On becoming the first Indian to score a century on debut) Replies he didn't know and his manager told him and he feels it's a milestone for him and he just hopes to carry on in the same way. Ends by saying there are total of 5 games remaining and hopes that he continues in the same way.
India captain MS DHONI says that it was very good performance from his side. Thinks that the pacers did a good job and were backed well by the spinners. Says it's difficult to assume in cricket what a good score is. Further adds that it's difficult to say whether it was a 240-250 pitch. Ends by saying that when it's just a 3-match series, winning the first game is very important.
Zimbabwe captain, GRAEME CREMER says this loss is very disappointing. Thinks that if they had applied themselves better and got to 220 it would have been different. Thinks they needed someone to get to 80-100 to get them to a competitive total. Adds that his seamers were good but sadly they didn't get much wickets. Ends by saying that they are much better than this and hopes they make a strong comeback.
The Zimbabwe bowling was nothing extraordinary and that led to their downfall. With hardly anything to defend, they needed a special performance which they couldn't put up. Chatara was the lone wicket-taker as he struck early but after that, no bowler could make an impact. Eventually, their efforts weren't enough and they ended up on the losing side. Earlier in the day, an outstanding bowling performance from the Indians saw them restricting Zimbabwe to a low total which they chased with ease. Presentation coming up...
Rayudu joined Rahul and the two slowly but steadily carried forward and the pair put up an unbeaten 162-run partnership to see their team through. Superb debut for KL Rahul as he remained not out on 100 whereas Ambati remained unbeaten on 62. The two displayed some finesse and with smart play, took their team past the line.
Pretty convincing win here for the visitors as they have completely undone the Rhodesians to earn a huge victory in the 1st ODI. With just 169 to chase, it was a slow start by the two debutants, Rahul and Nair and the latter had a forgettable day as he fell prey to Chatara on just 7.
