Right then. That's it from the coverage of this match. The action in the Women's T20 World Cup continues on 18th February, 2023. It is a double-header coming your way. It will an enticing clash between England Women and India Women to kick things off. This match will begin at 6.30 pm IST (1 pm GMT). Followed by a match between South Africa Women and Australia Women. This will commence at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT). But you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Hayley Matthews, the victorious skipper wins the Player of the Match award for her match-winning knock. She starts by saying that she is happy to bat through the innings. Adds kudos to the Irish girls as they bowled really well. But she is also proud of her group here. Mentions she has taken up a new role here and has helped her a lot. She adds that it got pretty tight in the end but is happy that they could get over the line. Credits Karishma for her spell. Ends by saying that it is a complete team effort. Says that they are going through a transition phase and it is all about sticking together and building together.
Laura Delany, the skipper of Ireland Women is in for a chat. She says that they were pretty relaxed in the final over. Praises the batting effort of her side. Says there are a lot of nerves as most of the girls are playing their first ever World Cup. Lauds the effort of Orla and Gaby with the blade. Tells that the best is yet to come.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the innings, Ireland Women were on track to score above 160 runs but they lost wicket in a flurry in the death which left them with an under-par score. Only, Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis turned up with the bat for them. West Indies Women were lethal with the ball in the fag end of the innings. During the chase, it went down till the wire but West Indies Women managed to come out on top in the end.
Ireland Women would be a bit disappointed as they could not seal the game here. Ireland Women were unable to keep the pressure in the death overs and that cost them the game here. Also, things could've been completely different only if Ireland Women were much more clinical in the field. Well, they says "Catches win matches" and that's what the Irish could not do. Leah Paul and Laura Delany took a wicket each.
West Indies Women started the chase slowly but their skipper, Hayley Matthews has made sure to get her side over the victory line here. West Indies Women lost two wickets quite early and found it difficult to score runs with ease. Hayley Matthews though made the most of her reprieve. She was well supported by Chinelle Henry to get the innings back on track. There were some hiccups in the end but West Indies Women came out on the right side.
Phew! What a match this turned out to be. Ireland Women put in a run for their money but they are yet to record a win in the T20 World Cup. Nevertheless, Ireland Women would feel they are going on the right trajectory here to become a fine propect in the coming future. Delight for West Indies Women, as they walk back with two crucial points.
