Right then, that brings the curtain down on this T20I series, with Pakistan clinching it 2-1 after an entertaining contest. Next up is the three-match ODI series, beginning on August 8th at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. The first ODI is set to get underway at 6:00 PM GMT, and we’ll be with you well in advance for all the pre-match build-up, expert analysis, and insights. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Salman Agha, the skipper of Pakistan, is up for a chat. Says that it was a complete team performance, and throughout the series, they were very good. Adds that they just want to keep improving and move forward. Shares that it was a different pitch, but credits the spinners for doing well. Lauds Sufiyan Muqeem, who has been brilliant in this series, and he brought them back into the game today. Closes by adding that they want to keep improving and following the process, as they have enough talent to win a lot of games.
Shai Hope, the skipper of the West Indies, credits the bowlers for their effort and wants to be consistent with the execution of the ball. Feels that 190 was chaseable and lauds Alick Athanaze for his knock. Adds that consistency is key, something which they haven't done. Closes by sharing that the captaincy is tough and hopes to find ways to get better.
Mohammad Nawaz is the Player of the Series for his brilliant bowling effort in the series. He says that the plan was basic to bowl in good areas, and he got help from the pitch. Adds that the wicket was a bit better, and the situation of the game is why he did not bowl all his overs. Shares that he has bowled with the new ball and is aware of bowling in the Powerplay. Mentions that the batters can line up easily if they bowl on one length and hopes to stay a step ahead. Closes by adding that his favourite all-rounders are Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi.
Sahibzada Farhan is the Player of the Match for his excellent knock. He credits the almighty for getting a good score and is happy that his innings helped the team win. Says that the conditions were pretty same and they wanted to play aggressively and pounce on the loose balls. Shares that he enjoys batting with Saim Ayub and hopes to continue the partnership in the long run. Closes by adding that he is pleased with the effort, and the focus is on getting better in the upcoming series.
Presentation time...
For Pakistan, all the bowlers except Faheem Ashraf took one piece while Sufiyan Muqeem was the most economical of the lot. The visitors gave away a few runs in the Powerplay but clawed their way through the slow bowlers by taking regular wickets and squeezing the runs to win another T20I series against the Men in Maroon. Earlier today, Pakistan posted a strong total of 189/4, led by an impressive opening stand from Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub. Valuable cameos from Hasan Nawaz, Khushdil Shah, and Faheem Ashraf helped push the score close to the 190-run mark. With the ball, Holder, Roston Chase, and Shamar Joseph picked up a wicket each, while Akeal Hosein bowled an economical spell despite going wicketless. Pakistan will look to keep the momentum going forward, while the West Indies will need to improve on certain areas and bounce back strong.
Defending 190, Pakistan were under pressure early as the West Indies came out firing. Jewel Andrew and Alick Athanaze stitched together a brisk 44-run opening stand, setting the tone with aggressive intent. Andrew fell for a lively 24, but Athanaze powered on to register his maiden T20I half-century, eventually dismissed for 60 in the 13th over. However, the Windies' momentum stalled in the middle overs as Pakistan’s spinners tightened the screws. Key batters like Roston Chase, Shai Hope, and Jason Holder couldn’t make an impact, while Sherfane Rutherford’s fighting fifty kept West Indies in the hunt. But the mounting pressure and disciplined Pakistani bowling in the death overs proved too much, and the West Indies fell short yet again, continuing a disappointing trend in recent bilateral contests between the two sides.
Pakistan have delivered a composed all-round performance to edge past the West Indies by 13 runs and clinch the T20I series 2-1. This victory also marks Pakistan’s seventh consecutive series win over the Caribbean side.
