So, that’s it from this game! The third T20I is a must-win for the Aussies if they are to stay alive in the series. Whereas a win for the Windies will see them win the series. All to play for. That game is on the 13th of July and it begins at 1930 local (2330 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Nicholas Pooran, Windies skipper, starts by thanking his coach and his team for giving him the opportunity to captain the side. Mentions they were going to bat first even if they batted first, they promoted Dwayne Bravo to keep the left-hand right-hand combination and it worked. Informs it was Dwayne’s idea and then they took the advice of Kieron Pollard and went ahead with it. Adds Fabian Allen is very good and they are just sticking to the team plan which is very pleasing.
Aaron Finch, Australian skipper, says the wicket did not change a lot but they needed to get off to a good start but they could not and that put a lot of pressure on an inexperienced middle order. States the first half was good but the last 10 is where the game slipped away, it was not easy with a left and right-hand combination and they will reflect on this. Ends by saying they will work hard and try to comeback stronger.
Shimron Hetmyer, Man of the Match, says this was one of his best T20 innings, he paced his innings well, he enjoyed the role of taking it deep and he thanks the team for giving him that role. States he wasn’t doing anything different in this game, he just wanted to be there and accelerate towards the end. Adds he is trying to learn how to bat deep and also finish the innings well. Mentions he enjoyed batting with Dwayne Bravo who he batted with for the first time and he kept talking to him.
Earlier in the day, after being inserted, Windies were in a spot of bother at the end of the 10th over. Shimron Hetmyer and Dwayne Bravo though added 100-plus with Hetmyer scoring a half ton laid the foundation and Andre Russell with some meaty blows took the Windie to just under 200 which they easily defended.
For the Windies, everybody except for Fabian Allen and Lendl Simmons who bowled just the one ball had a wicket to his name. Allen though was brilliant as he only went for 22 in his four. It was him who built the pressure and the rest reaped the rewards. Over, it was quite a professional bowling performance from them.
A clinical win for Windies and they have taken a 2-0 lead in this series. 197 was always going to be a tough chase and it got even tougher when Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade were dismissed in the Powerplay. Mitchell Marsh along with Moises Henriques and Josh Philippe did steady things. Marsh scored yet another half ton but departed when it was time for him to step on the gas. Once he fell, it all fell apart for the visitors as they kept losing wickets and eventually fell way short of the total.
