Right then, that's all from this game. The Big Bash League 2022-23 action continues on Thursday, 15th December as Brisbane Heat take on Melbourne Renegades at the Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns. That game will begin at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Matthew Short is the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 84 runs from 53 balls. He says that the key was to have fun. Adds that playing in the last season helped him a lot and tells that it is a good feeling to start with a win. Mentions that Chris Lynn is a great leader not just with the bat, and he hopes of spending more time with him out in the middle. Ends by saying that they were better in all aspects of the game.
Earlier, Adelaide Strikers lost Jake Weatherald in the first over after opting to bat first. Chris Lynn joined Matthew Short in the middle and stitched a 95-run stand for the second wicket. Even after the departure of Chris Lynn, Matthew Short went about his business with Adam Hose at the other end. The latter took matters into his own hands towards the back end of the innings and helped his side post a challenging total on the board. Adelaide Strikers bowlers too stepped up and backed their batters to register a convincing win.
In their pursuit of 185, Sydney Sixers were off to a shaky start losing Kurtis Patterson and James Vince in the third over of their innings. Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk did get off to decent starts but neither of them was able to take the game deep. With the required run-rate climbing with every dot ball, it proved to be tall ask to chase this daunting total and eventually falling short by 51 runs.
Adelaide Strikers begin their BBL 12 campaign with a win! A clinical show with the bat and ball sees them emerge victorious in their opening encounter. While defending a huge total, Adelaide Strikers began well with the ball putting Sydney Sixers in early trouble. They build the pressure throughout the innings and made going tough for Sydney Sixers batters. Henry Thornton was the pick of the bowlers for Adelaide Strikers with figures of 4 for 20 from his four overs while Rashid Khan too chipped in with three wickets.
