One match done, two more to go! The action from Pallekele is done for the day, but we now head to the Wankhede, where Italy have chosen to bowl first against Nepal in the second match of the day. That should be a cracker of a contest. And then, in the evening, at 1.30 pm GMT, the first ball will be bowled in the India-Namibia contest in Delhi. Have fun. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
So Sri Lanka not only get back to the top of the table but also boost their net run rate to plus 3.125. They head on with full confidence into their next clash which is against Australia on Monday, 16th February, 2026, at this very same ground. Oman, well, are not officially out, but a run rate of minus 4.306 does not invoke much positivity. They don't have too much time to fret as they meet Ireland quickly next, on Saturday, 14th February, 2026, in Colombo at the SSC. They can only hope to be more positive from here on.
The captain of Sri Lanka - Dasun Shanaka says that they are pleased about the way they batted and they used the conditions well. Adds that Pavan Rathnayake and Kusal Mendis batted well in the middle and himself and Kamindu Mendis ended well. Says that they need to work on their sweeps and reverse sweeps and improve more. On finding a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, Shanaka repies that it is hard to replace Hasaranga but feels that Dushan Hemantha handled it well. Further says that the batters are doing well in building partnerships and ends by saying that Pathum Nissanka will fire soon as well.
We don't play franchise cricket - The captain of Oman, JATINDER SINGH, believes that his side was very positive in this game. Adds that one can't take much from the first game, but feels that his side was very much in this match. However, he honestly admits that Sri Lanka are a much better side and had plans for Oman. Goes on to acknowledge that 225 was a bit too much for his team. On the reflections of the defeat, Jatinder says that if one sees their squad, there are hardly 4-5 guys who have played around 40-odd T20Is. So they lack the experience and don't have exposure. Singh goes on to add that the sad reality is that Oman players don't play franchise cricket and don't have any FTP which gives them any T20 cricket. As a result, they play a lot of 50-over cricket and barely any in the T20 format. On being asked as to whether the management is trying to improve the situation, Singh replies by saying that the coaches are working hard with each and every individual. Adds that certain things are not in their control but they are trying their best. Ends by saying that the Oman players can get exposure and experience by playing more cricket.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Sri Lanka's PAVAN RATHNAYAKE is adjudged the Player of the Match for his knock of 60 (28). He says that the wicket was really good and he just played his natural game. Adds that he likes to play spin bowling and he likes to rotate his strike. On being asked as to what he likes more - spin or pace - Rathnayake says that he enjoys both but he plays spin better, according to him. He further says that the team is great as everyone supports him and ends by saying that they will look to win their next game as well.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Meanwhile, it was a solid outing for the Sri Lankans. Almost like a warmup match. They ironed out their flaws and put up their best performance with both bat and ball in a while. Yes, their opponents were not that great, but that is not Lanka's problem. Sometimes, it takes one good match to get your form back and the home side will hope that is just the case. They will be eager to prove that they are not a one-man team. Please stay tuned for the presentation ...
Chasing 226 was no easy feat and Oman were already up against it from the start. The Lankan bowlers came out breathing fire and nicked out three inside the Powerplay. There was a bit of a fightback, from Mohammad Nadeem and Wasim Ali, with the duo adding 42 for the 4th wicket. But that was it. Wasim fell and from 78/3, Oman crumbled to 109 all out. It was a total team effort from the Lankans, where, barring Dushan Hemantha, everyone did well.
The day began with a lot of promise for Oman. They came into this clash full of confidence, aiming to take advantage of Sri Lanka's stuttering middle order and a bowling attack which had not done too well against Ireland. And they began well too, nipping out both the openers inside the Powerplay. But then, the middle order came unstuck against Oman and the bowlers got a hiding. A trio of half centuries from Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake and skipper Dasun Shanaka just pushed the Team In Red on the back foot and they just had no answers as they conceded 183 runs in 14.5 overs after the second wicket of Pathum Nissanka fell.
Mission accomplished. They planned to win convincingly and have executed their plans to perfection. Yes, Sri Lanka were always favourites to win this match but to do it without Wanindu Hasaranga sends out a strong message to Australia whom the Lankans play next. Not too many celebrations with Oman also looking glum. A sad day for them.

A yorker, on middle, Mohammad Nadeem gets his bat down in time and flicks it to mid-wicket for a single.
How cute is this? At the age of 43, Mohammad Nadeem becomes the oldest player to score a half century in a Men's T20 World Cup. He has broken Sanath Jayasuriya's record, who scored a half century at the age of 39, against West Indies in Nottingham in 2009! And who is the current coach of the Lankans? Boy o boy, the Matara Mauler would have enojoyed that. Right. Matheesha Pathirana to close things out. 2-0-6-0 so far.
