So that's it from us for this game. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. India wrapped things up in time and they will be pleased that they avenged the loss at the same venue in 2015. Sri Lanka go back to the drawing board for the umpteenth time in the last few years. They need to raise the bar to stay afloat in the series. We look forward to your company for the 2nd Test starting on August 3, 2017 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo. Action begins at 1000 local (0430 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
India skipper, Virat Kohli says that the loss in 2015 hurt them but this time they came back stronger to start off on a positive note. Reckons that the surface did not offer much to the bowlers and hence the win is more pleasing. Credits his bowlers for the skills they possess and their contributions. Mentions that the selection dilemma for the opening slots is a massive headache but it's always nice to have such competition in the squad. Adds that everyone of them is performing which makes it even better. Credits Abhinav Mukund for the way he batted and feels that the southpaw deserved a ton. Ends by saying that he was just looking to capitalize on the situation when he started batting in the second innings.
Sri Lanka skipper, Rangana Herath says that he is feeling better and hopes to be fit soon. Does not think that the toss was that crucial. Credits India for outplaying them in all the three departments of the game. Rues the injury to Asela Gunaratne since he is a key player for them. Hopes that they manage to raise their game ahead.
Man of the Match, Shikhar Dhawan says that he really enjoyed batting out in the middle. Reckons that he was positive throughout and was looking to score runs. Adds that the competition in the side helps him bring out the best and also keeps him on the toes to keep performing.
This is India's biggest win away from home, fourth highest overall. They are not a great Test side yet but they do their basics right and it works against teams who are not that strong. They made a lot of mistakes, dropped catches, had poor bowling plans yet came out on top thanks to the gulf in the quality of the teams.
Chasing history, the Islanders had come out victors in their previous Test against Zimbabwe but come India, they were found wanting. Their approach was hard to understand, they played their shots and kept losing wickets regularly. Dimuth Karunaratne was the only one to put up a fight and not surprising that he didn't play any extravagant shot - till he got out. It is not how you play Test cricket, no matter whatever your natural game is. All the talented batsmen in Kusal Mendis, Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews got starts but failed to kick on. Their bowling without Rangana Herath is like a fish out of pond. They have lots to ponder upon. The fitness of their stand-in skipper will be a concern for them.
India set up the game thanks to their massive first innings total. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara notched up tons as India posted a mammoth total on the board. Nuwan Pradeep was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts registering his best figures in Test cricket. Ravindra Jadeja then led the Indian attack and helped the visitors take a 309-run lead. They, however, chose not to enforce the follow-on. After a failure in the first innings, Virat Kohli notched up a ton in the second innings to set a target of 550 for the hosts.
No Rangana Herath, no Asela Gunaratne and Sri Lanka have lost this Test inside four days. Doesn't it reflect perfectly on the two individuals? Those two have done most of the hard work in the last few series and without their brilliance, it has resulted in India winning for the first time in Galle since 2008.

Ravindra Jadeja To Lahiru Kumara OUT!
OUT! DONE AND DUSTED! Loops this one outside off, Kumara loses his patience here and goes for the big shot. Gets a top edge on it and the ball balloons in the air. Mohammed Shami calls for it from mid off and takes it safely. Rangana Herath and Asela Gunaratne won't come out to bat and hence, INDIA WIN BY 304 RUNS!

So we have just got a confirmation that these two out in the middle are the last pair for Sri Lanka.

Ravichandran Ashwin To Nuwan Pradeep OUT!
OUT! Another one bites the dust! Ashwin bowls it around off and middle, Pradeep looks to nudge it but gets a glove on it. The ball lobs towards Virat Kohli at leg gully. He lunges forward and takes it inches off the ground. That is another wicket for Ashwin and India inch closer to victory.
