See you later - That wraps up the proceedings for this series! England completes the whitewash. This will be a massive confidence booster for them as they head into the World Cup. Harry Brook steps up to lift the silverware and celebrate with his team. This also brings an end to our coverage. Thank you for tuning in, and until next time, cheers!
The captain of England - Harry Brook says it was awesome to be part of this group, praising the boys for fighting hard right till the end. He added that the team has shown its ability to adapt to different surfaces. Brook lauded Sam Curran for guiding them to a competitive total and noted that the 16 overs of spin bowled in Sri Lanka’s own backyard made a huge difference. He also mentioned that playing World Cup cricket in these conditions will benefit the team greatly going forward. Brook signed off by saying he thoroughly enjoyed the tour and hopes to return to Sri Lanka soon.
The captain of Sri Lanka - Dasun Shanaka, says that they are really disappointed and they should have taken the game deep. Adds that they did well with the ball, but they need to do well with the bat. He adds that they will take the positives from here, and they need to address the areas where they fell short. Mentions that they need to play spin better, and that is an area they are concerned about. Ends by saying that they have a good bowling side and the batters need to find their form.
Sam Curran is the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series as well - Sam Curran says that it was a good game, and as the ball was gripping, they knew 135-140 would have been a decent score. Adds that it has been a fantastic series, and they are pumped up for the big event. Adds that they played really well and they are really proud of 3-0
Presentation time...
Chameera was brilliant with the ball - Earlier in the day, the English batters struggled to find their rhythm on a sluggish surface, crawling to a total of 128/9. Sam Curran was the lone warrior, fighting hard for a gritty half-century while the rest of the lineup crumbled. The standout performer was undoubtedly Dushmantha Chameera, who ripped through the visitors with pace and variations to claim a stunning five-wicket haul.
Spinners sealed the deal for the visitors - It was a brilliant collective bowling effort from England to defend such a low score. Will Jacks was exceptional, coming into the attack late to snap up 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his four overs. With Bethell taking four and the trio of Adil Rashid, Luke Wood, and Liam Dawson chipping in with a wicket each, England choked the runs and bowled Sri Lanka out, leaving the hosts 12 runs short in a game they should have won.
Bethell's over changed the game completely - As the pressure mounted, England went for the kill. The turning point arrived in the 18th over when Jacob Bethell produced a magical spell. He dismissed Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, and Dasun Shanaka in that over. That triple strike completely broke the back of the Sri Lankan chase, swinging the momentum decisively in England's favor when it mattered most.
The chase stuttered completely for the Lankans - Chasing a target of 129, Sri Lanka had a shaky start, losing Kamil Mishara for a duck. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis briefly steadied the ship with a 33-run partnership, but the English bowlers kept applying pressure. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and when Kusal Mendis departed for 26 in the 10th over, Sri Lanka found themselves at 65/4. The game was evenly poised, but the hosts needed a partnership that never came.
England completes the clean sweep! England has pulled off an absolute heist! Defending a modest total, they have stunned the hosts to win by 12 runs and complete a 3-0 series clean sweep. It looked like a lost cause, but the visitors showed incredible character to turn the game on its head. This victory is a massive morale booster heading into the World Cup, while Sri Lanka will be left wondering how they let this one slip from their grasp.
