Right then, that is it from the series. A breath-taking performance from the hosts has leveled the series. The trophy has been shared between Aiden Markram and Shai Hope. We hope you enjoyed our company. Until next time, goodbye and take care. Cheers!
Aiden Markram, the stand-in skipper of South Africa, says that they know the quality Heinrich Klaasen has. Shares that he watched the second ODI and discussed it with the coach. Adds that it was about keeping simple coming into this game. Shares that the plan was to avoid bowling full considering the power West Indies batters possess. Mentions that Marco Jansen is young and is trying to do the finishing job well. Adds that Jansen was angry after getting dismissed which shows the hunger in him.
The player of the series is shared between Shai Hope and Heinrich Klaasen. Shai Hope comes in for a chat. He says that it was not their day. Says that they have been in a situation like this and they failed to bowl well. Adds that they have to keep improving and learn from their mistakes. Ends by saying that they have to perform well and come back stronger.
Heinrich Klaasen is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 119 runs from 61 balls. He says that it was a pretty good wicket and he is pleased since it was one of his better knocks. Mentions that it is important to play conditions and not situations. Mentions that he tried to take on Alzarri Joseph and it went good today. Ends by saying that he will try to do whatever he can to keep going and it is good to take the team home.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, West Indies had a steady start but they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. They lost a wicket whenever a good partnership was brewing for them. They were bundled up for 260 runs inside their allotted fifty overs. For the hosts, Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee picked up two wickets while Aiden Markram, Wayne Parnell, and Lungi Ngidi had one in their bank.
Well, the West Indies bowlers were good at the start and it seemed like the game was evenly poised inside 20 overs. They just could not break the gritty stand of Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen who stitched a partnership of 103 runs. They got the wicket of Marco Jansen but it was too little, too late. Alzarri Joseph was the pick of the bowlers for them as he was economical and bagged three wickets. Akeal Hosein picked two while Kyle Mayers chipped in with one.
South Africa have absolutely cruised to victory in this third and final ODI and have levelled the series 1-1. Heinrich Klaasen, take a bow! It was a Heinrich Klaasen show as he pulled his side from 142/5 and registered a sensational victory and finished off things in style. They had a shaky start and lost some early wickets but Heinrich Klaasen came on and steadied the sinking ship. He scored an excellent knock of 119 runs and he was ably supported by Marco Jansen who was dismissed for 43 runs.
