That's a wrap on this contest! The series decider arrives on 8th November 2025, 10 am GMT. Tune in an hour early for the pre-match buildup. Cheers!
Matthew Breetzke, South Africa's captain, applauded the team's clinical all-round show, crediting Nandre Burger for leading the charge with the ball and Quinton de Kock, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, and Tony de Zorzi for their batting exploits. He noted that the Proteas set high standards for themselves, emphasizing their sharp fielding efforts, including a fabulous catch by Donovan Ferreira. Breetzke praised Nandre as a top-class bowler, lethal with the new ball when he gains momentum, and expressed happiness at his early breakthroughs. With the series level, he expressed optimism about the decider, saying the team was now focused on coming out on top.
Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan's captain, lauded Saim Ayub and Salman Agha for playing crucial roles, their partnership helping to steady the ship after three early wickets. He acknowledged that while 270 seemed a defendable target, dropped catches proved costly. Afridi expressed determination, stating that the team would regroup, come back stronger, and be more resilient in the next game.
Quinton de Kock, the Player of the Match, credited the team's solid performance, noting that Nandre Burger and Corbin Bosch had set the tone early with a disciplined bowling effort. Pakistan had posted a decent total, but the Proteas simply batted exceptionally well to chase it down with ease. De Kock spoke of his personal drive, setting high standards and constantly aiming for new goals. He praised the team's fresh energy, particularly the youngsters, and singled out Tony de Zorzi for a clinical, composed innings, taking the majority of the strike and looking sharp in the middle.
Presentation ...
Earlier in the game, a sensational final over capped a resilient innings for Pakistan, who set South Africa a target of 270 after finishing on 269/9. After opting to bat, Pakistan stumbled early, reduced to 22/3 by Nandre Burger. Crucial partnerships from Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha rescued the innings. They added 92 for the 4th wicket, followed by a 59-run stand between Agha and Mohammad Nawaz for the 6th wicket. Despite Nqabayomzi Peter's three wickets and a brace for Corbin Bosch, Nawaz anchored the late innings, which exploded in the final over with 22 runs.
Pakistan's bowling was totally outgunned by the Proteas' batting fireworks! Mohammad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf picked up one wicket each and that's pretty much the only highlights for the bowlers. The South African batters, led by QDK's unbeaten 123 and Tony de Zorzi's solid 76, just smashed their way past 270. No real contest, really.
The real game-changer was the marathon stand of 153 between QDK and Tony de Zorzi after Lhuan’s departure. Tony played a fiery 76, while QDK was sensational with an unbeaten 123, steering South Africa to a comfortable victory. Lhuan’s brisk 46 set the tone early on. The partnership between Quinton de Kock and Tony de Zorzi was a sheer delight for fans as it was a spectacle of punishing cricket. Neither spared the bowlers, dispatching loose deliveries to all corners of the park, leaving Pakistan struggling to contain the flow.
South Africa have squared the series with a dominant 8-wicket win in the 2nd ODI, effortlessly chasing down 270 with nearly 10 overs to spare. Chasing a modest target, the Proteas were never troubled, thanks to a sizzling start by the openers. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock batted with intent, brushing aside pressure and laying the foundation.
