We're done with all the action from Super Sunday. Looking forward to your company on Monday (20th February 2023) for the game between India Women and Ireland Women at 6.30 pm IST (1 pm GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Sophie Devine, the skipper of New Zealand Women, says she is extremely proud of her side for the fighting spirit they have shown in the last couple of games. Adds that the way her team played in the last game was really good and to bounce back from a defeat in such a manner was commendable. She is delighted to have players like Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr who stepped up when the team needed the most. She closes by saying that no result is certain in Women's cricket and any team can beat any opponent on its day so they are still counting on Bangladesh. She thanks the spectators for turning up in massive numbers and supporting them as well.
Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of Sri Lanka Women, says that it was a tough day for them. Adds that as a bowling unit, they needed a good performance. Feels 140 would have been a fair total to chase. Regrets losing too many wickets early on. Mentions that the game plans didn't come together and talks about the inexperience in the squad. Further says that as a team they have to stick to the plans and not take too much pressure. States that they played some good cricket in the tournament and they have learnt a lot of things.
Amelia Kerr is the Player of the Match for her 66 off 48 with the bat and 2 wickets with the ball. She says it was nice to put up a good performance and get a win. Adds that she has been light on runs so it was good for her to get some runs in the middle. Mentions that the partnership with Suzie Bates went really well. States that the ball is coming off nicely and she is enjoying bowling. Adds that she and Bates were looking to bat deep and hit the gaps to take twos and then go for the boundaries in the latter stages.
Presentation time...
Earlier, it was a superb batting display by the White Ferns. They batted with a lot of intent to post a big total on the board. Sri Lanka Women were abysmal in the field, and in totality, they had a day to forget.
The chase never got going for Sri Lanka Women. They lost three wickets inside the Powerplay and never recovered. Their main hope was on the skipper Chamari Athapaththu, and once she was trapped in front of the wickets, the writing was on the wall. There was no fight shown by the rest and New Zealand Women ran away with the show. The Islanders managed only 60 runs and that's their lowest total in T20 World Cups.
A clinical performance from New Zealand Women! They were right on the money with their batting and bowling plans. The execution was accurate and they dominated Sri Lanka Women in every aspect of the game. A thumping win has pumped their NRR above Sri Lanka Women and if they get a favourable outcome from the clash between South Africa Women and Bangladesh Women, they have every chance to qualify for the semis. Sri Lanka Women, on the other hand, are officially knocked out.
