That's it from this game. A see-saw match but the hosts fought back and now have a chance to whitewash Pakistan when they will face them on the 19th of January 2018 in Wellington at 1100 local (2200 GMT). Should be a good game as Pakistan will want to go into the T20Is with some momentum. Do join us for all the action. You can now switch your tabs to catch all the updates from the game between South Africa and India. Cheers!
Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed says that it was a very disappointing loss for them but they had positives to take from this game as Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail and Mohammad Hafeez batted really well. Mentions that it was a good total on the board and he had confidence in his bowlers to defend it. On being asked about de Grandhomme's innings, he answers that Colin played a really great knock and some big strikes from him helped them win the match.
New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson walks in for an interview. About the game, he says it was a good one and Pakistan played well. Adds that they didn't lose early wickets but lost quite a few in the middle overs. Continues saying that Colin de Grandhomme played well and it was a special innings from him. Informs that they practice playing spin during the net session but it was different today. Gives credit to the top order for providing them with a good start. Praises Henry Nicholls for his contribution. Ends by saying that it feels nice to win the game as they were under pressure.
Colin de Grandhomme bags the Man of the Match award for his quickfire 74 runs off 40 balls. On being asked, how did he feel going out in the middle, he replies that he was hitting it well and got underneath the ball to clear it away. He mentions it was important to build a partnership with Henry Nicholls and take it to the very end which they eventually managed.
Pakistan played a lot better today but still suffered the same fate. It was a case of one man playing an extraordinary knock to take away the game from them. Shadab Khan was the star performer for the visitors but apart from him, their bowling lacked discipline and consistency. With just one game left, they will have to better their overall performance to avoid the whitewash.
The Kiwi skipper was dismissed in the 35th over and New Zealand needed 109 runs more for a win. But Pakistan's hope of capitalizing from thereon was punctured by Colin de Grandhomme's blitzkrieg. His whirlwind 40-ball 74 knock included 12 brutal boundaries and the tourists just surrendered in front of his might. Henry Nicholls also anchored the innings well and was a quiet contributor in a couple of crucial stands.
New Zealand got off to a flying start chasing a target of 263. Colin Munro was in his elements and along with Martin Guptill laid a solid platform up front. Just when it seemed that the match is done and dusted, Pakistan made a resounding comeback. Shadab Khan was in the thick of things as he forced a collapse. From 0 for 88, New Zealand slipped to 4 for 99 and were staring down the barrel when Kane Williamson got together with Henry Nicholls to thread a 55-run stand.
All over in a flash! Pakistan will be shell-shocked at the moment! They were dominating the game and after dismissing Kane Williamson had the upper hand. But then, a tsunami named Colin de Grandhomme struck them! The big all-rounder grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and powered New Zealand to 4-0!
