Right then, Tom Latham collects the trophy and joins his teammates for pictures with the trophy. There will be a brief break now for Christmas before these two teams resume their rivalry through the more significant T20I series. The three-match series kicks off at the very same venue on Wednesday, December 27. The first ball will be bowled at 11.40 am IST (6.10 am GMT), but as you know, our build-up will begin much sooner. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the winning skipper of Bangladesh, says that he is very proud of the team and that he wanted to win the series as well. He credits the bowlers for bowling in good areas and took wickets. He adds that he tried to play his game and focus on his batting process. Mentions that he is confident going into the T20I series and they will prepare for that after a short break.
The captain of New Zealand, Tom Latham says that Bangladesh found the right areas to bowl and he is disappointed with their performance. He adds that the pitch had a lot to offer in the first innings which the opponents took right advantage of. He says that it was nice to give opportunities to some new players and they all will learn a lot from this series.
Will Young is the Player of the Series for his stellar run with the bat in this series. He says that it was very tough to bat in these conditions and it would have been nice to win this one. He adds that the wicket had a lot to offer for the bowlers. He mentions that he is happy to be in good form and put in some good performances in the series. He says that he is happy to perform whenever he gets the opportunity. Adds that he didn't know he was amongst the elites for scoring the most runs in ODIs.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib is the Player of the Match. He registered his career-best figures of 3 for 14 including two maidens to break the back of the Kiwi batting unit. He says that he is happy with his performance and enjoyed bowling in these conditions and is glad to set up the tone for the team. He adds that he tries to bowl wicket to wicket and pick the right areas. He mentions that he wanted to improve from the last match and he stuck to his plans.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, after Najmul Hossain Shanto called it right and inserted New Zealand into bat, it was one-way traffic in favour of the visitors. It was a real struggle for New Zealand, and they just were not able to apply themselves well under testing conditions. Tanzim Hasan Sakib set the tone for Bangladesh, putting the Kiwis in early trouble. Will Young and Tom Latham began to rebuild the innings, but Shoriful Islam returned to the attack and removed both set batters. After that, none of the incoming batters were prepared to bide their time, and it was nothing but a virtual procession. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Shorful Islam wreaked havoc with three wickets each to roll New Zealand over for 98, their lowest score at home in ODIs since 2007. Soumya Sarkar and Mustafizur Rahman came to the party as well, with three wickets and one wicket, respectively.
Despite not much to defend, New Zealand would have been hopeful at the halfway mark given that the surface was a pacer's paradise and batting was far from being easy. Adam Milne bowled a probing first over as did Jacob Duffy but that was pretty much it for New Zealand with the ball. Soon the pacers began bowling short and offered width which allowed the Bangladesh batters to bat freely and have it their way. Josh Clarkson was taken for runs as was William O'Rourke but he managed to nip out Anamul Haque which was nothing but a consolation for him.
In pursuit of a very modest total, the centurion from the last game, Soumya Sarkar struggled during his short stay before retiring due to some discomfort in his right eye. Anamul Haque took the mantle and did not let the demons of the surface get to him. Coming in at number 3, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto got off the blocks quickly and looked all at ease during his time in the middle. There was no stopping him as he raced to his fifty off 42 balls and finished the game for his side alongside Litton Das.
HISTORIC WIN FOR BANGLADESH! What a way to register your first ODI win against New Zealand in New Zealand! The Tigers may have lost the series but they have etched a famous win here in McLean Park. As for New Zealand, it was a game to forget for them. They could only muster 98 runs, their lowest-ever score in the format against Bangladesh and with the ball, they had only a wicket to show for their efforts. With this defeat, their streak of winning 17 games on the trot at home in ODIs comes to an end.

William O'Rourke To Anamul Haque OUT!
OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! William O'Rourke with their first breakthrough! He bowls it on a good length and the ball nips back out just enough to nick the edge of Anamul Haque's bat as he tries to block it on the offside. Tom Blundell behind the stumps takes an easy catch and this wicket will give New Zealand fans something to cheer for on what has otherwise been a tough day.
