MITCHELL MARSH GRABS THE MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD! He impressed one and all with his all-round prowess, picking up 2 wickets and then scoring an unbeaten 69 runs. That's all from this match. We look forward to your company for the third ODI on 08th February at 0630 IST. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Mitchell Marsh shone at the right time for the Aussies. He hammered a timely half century and proved his worth as an all-rounder. Along with John Hastings, he stitched in an unbeaten match-winning partnership of 86 runs. New Zealand were completely off colour with the new ball bowling but credit should be given to them for the way they bounced back after that. Mitchell Santner who made an unbeaten 45 earlier in the day, finished with a 3-wicket haul and was the most impressive bowler. Matt Henry also did decently but altogether it wasn't the same bowling effort which we witnessed in Auckland.
In reply, Australia got off to a flier. David Warner was in his zone while Usman Khawaja proved why it is wrong to ignore him from the playing XI. The duo added quickfire runs for the first wicket and it was a cruise for the Aussies. But suddenly, Khawaja got out and it led to a couple of more wickets. The fragile Australian middle order was once again exposed and when David Warner also got out, it seemed all over for Australia.
Australia have bounced back to level the series 1-1! It was a game where they performed better than the last time but still it was not clinical by any stretch of imagination. The bowlers did a good job initially but then failed to kill the New Zealand innings when they had them on the mat. The Kiwis went on to score a challenging total.
