That's all we have from this entertaining game. West Indies gathered 10 important points from it and are on track to claim all 30 and jump to number 3 on the table of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2022/23. Can the Dutch team bounce back? The second ODI is on Thursday, 2nd June 2022 at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of West Indies, says that it's a lovely win and they are happy to get 10 points. He calls the Netherlands team a competitive one and thinks that they batted well in the Powerplay. Shares that the pitch was nice to bat and feels they took time to adjust with the ball. Adds that they pulled things back in the middle overs. He is happy with the way they built partnerships and lauds Brooks and Hope for their knocks, and is also pleased with the effort of King. Pooran further says that they are here to win and have some fun, and he hopes to continue to entertain the crowd. Also adds that they want to get better as a team.
Pieter Seelaar, the Dutch skipper, says that 240 wasn't the worst effort with the bat. Praises the opening stand of West Indies. Mentions that Logan van Beek provided them with the breakthroughs and they picked up the momentum but they were then unable to build constant pressure. Feels that the little bit of drizzle made the pitch good for batting and then lauds the batting of Hope and King. Tells that West Indies have high-quality players and they waited for them to make some mistakes which they didn't. Opines that maintaining constant pressure will be the key. Counts the positives and praises Vikramjit Singh and Teja Nidamanuru for their knocks. Signs off by saying that they need tighten up in every facet of the game.
SHAI HOPE (119*) IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! The opener says that he is happy to get over the line. Adds that the main priority was to take the team home. Mentions that he just loves to bat and shares that he was cramping up, but it happens. States that he is enjoying his time, it's a bit cold so he has to acclimatize to the conditions.
Presentation time...
Earlier, the Netherlands batted with plenty of application to post a decent total on the board. They could have done better had their set batters carried on for long, and this is something to improve for them in future games. Their bowling was flat for most parts, and the phase where they picked three wickets in quick succession was the only time the Dutchmen appeared to be in the game.
Chasing a revised target of 247, the West Indian openers started cautiously but then pressed on the accelerator. Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks displayed great shots and provided the touring team with a perfect start. They raised a century stand to deflate the confidence of the Dutch team, but the departure of Brooks led to a mini-collapse. Three wickets went down in a jiffy, giving a sniff to the home team, but the presence of Shai meant that West Indies always had things in control. In Brandon King, Hope found an able ally, and together they navigated through the period of pressure to earn a series lead.
Easily done in the end, and the touring team takes this rain-truncated game! This match appeared to be slipping away from West Indies at one time, but the arrival of Brandon King shut all the hopes of the Dutch team. King batted with a lot of intent and punctured all the momentum that the home team was gaining.
