That's it then from this game but there's still action left on Super Saturday as it is now time for the men from the same teams to go out and battle it out. Table-toppers London take on playoff-chasing Oval in a mouth-watering clash. That game will begin at 11.30 pm IST (6 pm GMT). You can switch tabs in a bit and join us for the early build-up. Cheers!
Dane Van Niekerk, the captain of Oval Invincibles Women says that for some reason they love to play and win here at Lord's. Tells that it is special to come out and play on this ground and credits to players for their performance. Adds that Mady Villiers has been a bit unlucky throughout the tournament and tells that she is a match-winner. Credits Shabnim Ismail for the way she bowled and bowled good lengths and tells that she knows her for quite a long time for almost 13 years and adds that she knows how to work with her. Tells that she is an experienced player and that makes it easy for her. Tells that she has conversations with her bowlers and tries to know what they want. Talks about her openers and says that both have played cricket for a long time and Suzie Bates especially is a very big player and Bates and Winfield understand each other well. Says that they need to iron out flaws going into the next games and one always tries to get better. Tells that they want to pick going into the business end and everybody has contributed and they want to play the attacking cricket they have been playing. Tells that Marizanne Kapp is a big player and whenever she comes back it will be a big boost.
Mady Villiers (4 for 12) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her brilliant display with the ball. She says that it was nice to get wickets in this game and it came off well. Tells that in the last few games she has not bowled her best balls enough and she was inconsistent but in this game, she got it right. Mentions that the pitch was good to bat on and reckons that it was a belter. Adds that she tries to bowl wicket to wicket and signs off by adding that it was a pleasing performance.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Dane Van Niekerk won the toss and put the opposition into bat which proved to be the right decision. Once their bowlers got rid of the destructive opening pair of Beth Mooney and Danielle Gibson, Oval Invincibles Women were in pole position. After that, Mady Villiers showed great wicket-taking abilities as she bowled a couple of sets of ten on the go and picked up four wickets. As for London Spirit Women, only Amelia Kerr showed fight and got them to the 80-run mark. In the chase, the top two for Oval Invincibles Women, Suzie Bates and Lauren Winfield were too hot to handle for the opposition bowlers and the reigning champions lost just one wicket as they sealed their place in the playoffs.
In a must-win game, London Spirit Women didn't even have a run-a-ball total on board which made it even more difficult for the bowlers. But they never stood a chance and the pacers were just not on song from the get-go. Apart from skipper Charlotte Dean and Grace Scrivens, everyone else received a bit of stick and the game was over before they knew it. Their bowlers might have poor figures but it was really the batting that has been the difference maker in this game. They will be disappointed with that performance and will look to end the season with a win in the next game.
With just 81 needed to win, one expected London Spirit Women to get the win but they did it with much ease. This victory was set up by the bowlers earlier and then by their openers as well. Lauren Winfield and Suzie Bates were relentless, Bates, in particular, went after her White Ferns teammate Amelia Kerr and played a quickfire knock before getting out for 31. After that, it was all Winfield as she played strokes all across the ground and finished with 44 not out and even hit the winning runs.
What a resounding victory this has been for Oval Invincibles Women and with this big win, they have secured their place in the top 3 of the points table which means that they will at least play the Eliminator. As for London Spirit Women, their hopes of making it to the playoffs is well and truly over now.
