Moving on - Right then, that wraps up this one-sided affair, as Ireland knock Oman out of this World Cup. Now we turn our attention to a mouth-watering European clash between England and Scotland at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. That game will get underway shortly, so switch tabs and join us for all the build-up and live coverage. Cheers!
The victorious skipper of Ireland - Lorcan Tucker says it was great to turn around from the last match. Acknowledges that Oman are a good side, they are competitive and bowled really well in the first 10 overs. Talking about the points table, Lorcan says they want a couple of results to go their way.
The captain of Oman - Jatinder Singh says that since it was a new track, they wanted to bowl first. Adds that they wanted to assess the conditions as in the last game, they were put into bat after losing the toss. Mentions that they were in the game, picking up four quick wickets, but praises Lorcan Tucker for his knock and the way he built the partnership with Gareth Delany, calling it a masterclass. Tells that they just could not execute their plans with the ball under pressure. Singh credits his spinners, but also admits that after the early wickets, they let that partnership build, which cost them. Says that they were in the chase till the 10th over, but losing too many wickets for 25-odd runs did not help their cause. Further adds that as a side, they do lack experience and exposure but playing against top sides, will only help them improve and every game is an oppurtunity do that.
Let's hear from the captains now...
Ireland clamp down when It matters - Ireland were solid with the ball overall. Matthew Humphreys set the tone with an early wicket, although they did leak runs during the Powerplay. But once Barry McCarthy removed Kaleem, Ireland tightened the screws and never allowed Oman any breathing space. Humphreys went on to add another to his tally, while Josh Little was the standout with a three-wicket haul, and McCarthy helped finish the job. There were a couple of run-outs, but they also put down a few chances in the field, which remains a worrying area for them in this World Cup and one that needs improvement.
An Irish run-fest unleashed - Earlier in the game, Ireland racked up the highest total of this World Cup, powered by a stunning unbeaten 94 from skipper Lorcan Tucker. He put on a crucial 101-run stand with Gareth Delany, who chipped in with a fluent half-century, and the pair rescued Ireland after an early collapse. George Dockrell then provided the late fireworks with a blistering 35 off just nine balls, lifting the total well past the 200-run mark. For the bowling side, Shakeel Ahmed was the standout performer with a three-wicket haul, all three strikes coming in the Powerplay, while Kaleem and Shah picked up one apiece. However, the pacers struggled badly, conceding a combined 138 runs in eight overs, which left them with far too much ground to make up.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Ireland skipper, Lorcan Tucker, wins the award for his excellent knock of 94* off 51. Former Pakistan international, Waqar Younis, hands over the award to him. He says they had a mixed Powerplay but as the pitch was good, they had to capitalise on it. Tucker reckons that he just tried to keep the tempo up and not rush anything. Mentions that the other batters played handy knocks to get the score over 200.
From flying to falling apart - Despite losing their skipper early, Oman flew out of the blocks thanks to some fluent strokeplay from Aamir Kaleem, racing to 63 in the Powerplay. The 73-run stand between Kaleem and Hammad Mirza kept them in the hunt, but once Kaleem got out after bringing up his fifty, becoming the oldest player to score a T20 World Cup half-century, the innings completely unraveled. Mirza fell just short of his own milestone not long after, and from 97/2 Oman slumped to 139 all out, with just one batter other than the two mentioned getting to double digits, a sorry collapse after such a promising start.
Irish surge keeps the dream alive - Ireland have kept their World Cup campaign alive with a dominant all-round display here, excelling with both bat and ball. In the process, they have handed Oman their third defeat of the tournament, making them the first side to be eliminated, which will be hugely disappointing for them.
