That brings us to the close of the first ODI! New Zealand have come out with flying colours and would feel they have a chance to win the series now. Remember, it's a short series and it will be the hosts who shall be under the pump as they won't have much time to regroup. Will the Kiwis continue to march on or will the Men in Blue take this series down to the decider? Let's find that out in the second ODI in Pune on 25th October at 1330 local time (0800 GMT). Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Man of the Match, Tom Latham is really elated with the win and feels it has been a fruitful knock as keeping for 50 overs and then coming out to bat is never easy. Opines that the conditions were really humid, way different from home. Reckons he will bat wherever his team wants and whatever suits the team. On his reverse sweep, he says this is one shot he has been working on and it is always nice when it comes off. Informs they (he and Taylor) decided to rotate strike and ends by praising Ross Taylor for the way he played.
Kane Williamson says that it has been a brilliant performance. Credits his new ball bowlers. He also praises Virat Kohli's brilliant century. Mentions that it was a really good chase from them, one of the best in recent times. States that bowling was not easy in this heat and congratulates his bowlers for giving it their all. He is pleased about the 200-run stand between Taylor and Latham calling it special. Feels that the guys have a great attitude towards the game and is happy with the all-round performance.
Virat Kohli is a bit disappointed but feels it has been a satisfying knock from him. Admits that New Zealand took the game away from them in the second half of the chase. Adds when the opposition gets a 200-plus stand, they will often be at the right side of the result. Opines that the dew came in and they fell short. Feels that the wicket also settled down as the game progressed. Once again praises Latham and Taylor for tackling their spinners. On why didn't he make Jadhav bowl, he says they didn't feel like giving the ball to him as the wicket had turn and bounce and so he backed his frontline spinners. Gives a special mention to Pandya who bowled well.
The game was poised nicely till the 30th over with New Zealand needing 133 off 120 balls with 7 wickets in hand. But the Kiwis played with a calm head and didn't get carried away. One would feel the hosts were a wicket away to exploit the inexperienced middle order but that just didn't happen. Earlier in the day, their middle order woes sparked yet again. Virat Kohli was the lone warrior as he stayed till the end to power his side to 280 by stroking a ton in his 200th ODI which in the end proved below par as the Kiwis romped home with 6 balls to spare.
Latham and Taylor broke a few records, one being the highest 4th wicket stand for New Zealand and highest for any wicket at this venue. The former got to his ton but the latter departed just when his side was at the doorstep to victory. The Indians would ponder what went wrong today. Kumar and Bumrah didn't seem to be penetrative while the spinners had no answers against Latham-Taylor. The dew was also a factor which didn't help their cause either. Apart from Pandya and Chahal the rest just couldn't arrive to the party.
New Zealand have taken a 1-0 lead in the series and they have done that in some style. They have recorded the HIGHEST SUCCESSFUL ODI RUN CHASE AT THE WANKHEDE and that should tell you how well they have played here. Chasing 281, the visitors got off to a steady start but then lost three wickets when they had just 80 on the board. Ross Taylor, the experienced campaigner and Tom Latham, their go-to man got together to keep the hosts at bay. They kept rotating the strike, played the spinners to great effect and then pounced on the freebies that were on offer.

FOUR! It has taken just one ball for Nicholls to finish it off. This is simply brilliant from the Kiwis! They have chased down the target without breaking a sweat! They are delighted as they have done something which will shock the world at the moment. Well done! Length ball on middle, Nicholls hoicks it over mid-wicket for a boundary. NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 6 WICKETS!
Henry Nicholls walks in next, replacing Taylor. He has to come out when his side needs just a run to win.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar To Ross Taylor OUT!
OUT! Has that carried? Oh yes! It has! No one is celebrating, Bhuvneshwar Kumar almost started to walk near the run up area but Chahal slowly gets up and claims the catch. Now Taylor starts to walk back. Would you believe it? Ross Taylor survived an LBW scare but now departs when his side is almost over the finish line. Ball - Fuller in length on off, Taylor smacks it hard but finds Chahal at extra cover who takes a good low catch. Ross walks back to a big round of applause. New Zealand are just a run away from victory.

NOT OUT! The decision stands! Ross Taylor survives a scare and still has an opportunity to get a ton! Good length delivery, angling in, Taylor tries to hoick it across the line but misses and is hit on the pads. They appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Bumrah is really confident and Kohli takes the DRS! Replays roll in, front foot is just fine. Hawk Eye shows it's in line but would have clipped the stumps. That's it, the Kiwi dressing room is all smiles. In fact, they have crossed for a leg bye which means Taylor won't be on strike.
Howzzat???? Too late in the game but India have taken a review for an LBW appeal against Taylor. Bumrah looks very confident. Will Rosco survive to get a chance to earn his century?

Well played, Tom Latham! 5th ODI ton for this man! He came in when his side was in trouble, he was asked to bat in the middle order to strengthen it and boy, he has shown why he is banked so much. Raises his bat and sinks in all the applause that is on offer! Coming to the ball, length delivery on middle, clipped through square leg for one.

FOUR! Edgy! Back of a length delivery outside off, Taylor looks to cut but gets a thick outside edge. It bounces in front of Dhoni, beats his dive and races away to the fence for a boundary. This is now the highest 4th wicket stand for NZ. Previous one was 191 between Ryder and Anderson against WI in 2014!
