That brings us to the end of the coverage of this game. The Indian team's Republic Day party has been gatecrashed here in Kanpur. The action now shifts to Nagpur where the teams will battle it out in the second T20I. Can the Indians fight back or will England seal the deal there? The action starts on 29th January at 1900 local, 1330 GMT. Until next time, it's goodbye from us. Cheers!
Man of the Match, Moeen Ali says that as a unit they were fantastic and the next two matches are going to be massive. Says that he learned from the ODIs and adjusted his lines and lengths accordingly.
England skipper, Eoin Morgan says that their bowlers were excellent. Applauds Moeen Ali for bowling such a great spell on a pitch where there wasn't any turn on offer. Also lauds the other bowlers. Adds that getting off to a flier upfront helped the rest as it allowed them to come in and settle. Ends by saying that it's always nice to see young players stepping up and would like to continue the momentum going forward.
India skipper, Virat Kohli accepts that England played better than India and were very precise in whatever they did tonight. Credits English bowlers for making full use of the pitch to trouble the Indian batsmen. Admits that they fell around 30-35 run short and also lauds the opposition batsmen for keeping their composure under lights. Appreciates Chahal's performance tonight by saying that he is a wicket-taker and that he was the one who pulled India back in the game. Ends by saying that T20 is a game which one has to enjoy and play at a certain level of intensity.
Chahal was the only Indian bowler who had a good outing while the others all copped a lot of stick. There wasn't enough runs on the board but the Indian bowlers never tried enough, often faltering in their lengths. Full marks to England's bowlers who did their homework well earlier in the afternoon to restrict India to a below par score. Back-to-back wins for England on the tour now after the ODI win in Kolkata.
A clinical performance by England to go 1-0 up in the 3-match T20I series. The tourists got a brisk start in pursuit of the modest target but both openers departed in the same over to Chahal to give India a glimmer of hope. Skipper Morgan though ensured that there was no comeback for the hosts as he rattled a blistering fifty. His partnership with Root virtually sealed the game for England. The captain departed at the brink but Root and Stokes completed the formalities.

Nothing from the free hit as Root is cleaned up. Tries the premeditated paddle off a full toss but ends up scooping it on to the stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah To Joe Root
REPRIEVE FOR ROOT! Length ball angled in around off, Root looks to heave it away but the ball shoots through low to rip out the off pole. The umpire goes upstairs to check for the no ball and it's tragedy for Bumrah as he has overstepped. Not that a wicket would have mattered much at this stage but still. Free Hit coming up.

Looked comical. Back of a length around off, punched off the back foot towards short cover. Root wanted the single but is sent back. Too late but Kohli's throw hits the batsman at the bowler's end. A direct hit would have got Joe.
