So that is it from us for this game. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. The action does not stop though as Kolkata host Bangalore for a vital game at Eden Gardens. Hop onto that match for all the updates on it. Cheers!
Man of the Match is awarded to Hashim Amla for his brilliant knock. He played really well coming off a ton in his previous game. He seems to have injured himself and hence hasn't come out for the presentation as well.
Punjab skipper, Glenn Maxwell says that it was a terrific toss to lose. Adds that the wicket was a bit slow and the bowlers bowled really well. Says that Amla and Marsh were outstanding and allowed their back end batsmen to play their game. Feels that he has been making handy contributions but wants to do a bit more to make it easier for the lower order. Feels that Cariappa was outstanding and hit the right lines and right spots. Further adds that he and Axar Patel were fantastic. Mentions that they motivate each other. Adds that Hashim Amla has played a couple of brilliant innings. Mentions that he is unsure of Amla's fitness and adds that he was very sore when he was out in the middle with him. They couldn't run the quick singles but Amla kept hitting boundaries at will so it didn't make much of a difference. Ends by saying that he is pleased with the character the boys have shown.
Gujarat skipper, Suresh Raina feels that wickets at regular intervals cost them. Says that they had the batsmen to chase this down. Mentions that the bowlers are not at all confident and the spinners need to step up and take wickets. Informs that the cramp to Nathu Singh hampered them as they had to bowl Dwayne Smith then. Adds that the bowlers are doing well in the nets but not executing the plans in the middle. Further adds that they backed themselves to chase the total down but the slower balls were tough to hit and it is something their bowlers need to learn to do. On facing Bangalore, he replies that they have injury concerns so will see how things go. Hopes that they deliver with the performance and not just keep talking.
Dinesh Karthik scored a fighting fifty but he didn't get any support from the other end. The Punjab bowlers were right on the money and kept on mounting the pressure on the opposition. The middle order lost the plot and crumbled under pressure. KC Cariappa was brilliant and the home side found it difficult to read him. He ended with figures of 4-0-24-2 and was the standout bowler. Mohit Sharma bowled a miserly spell too and Sandeep Sharma and Axar Patel were among the wickets as well. In the end, the total proved to be too much for the home side.
A clincial finish from Punjab and they have ended their 4-match losing streak. The hosts got off to a poor start as they lost their prolific run-scorer McCullum cheaply. Raina came in and along with Finch gave the momentum to their innings. The skipper once again looked in good touch and was threatening to take the game away from Punjab. However, the departure of Finch and Raina in quick succession turned the tide in favour of the visitors.
