Cricket is a funny game, ain't it? Some days, even 200 cannot be defended. And on others, 118 gets defended. Guyana have jumped to the top with this amazing win and will come in with full confidence on Sunday, 23rd August, 2020 which sees another double header - Knight Riders meeting Tridents, followed by the Warriors-Zouks clash. The action begins from 10 am local (1400 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious Guyana Amazon Warriors captain, Chris Green, says that they were very positive during the break, even though they were 10-15 runs light with the bat. But they believed a special bowling performance could deliver the win and they got it. Praises the debutant Ashmead Nedd for holding his head in a pressure game. Is not too worried about his batsmen not getting the runs with detailing that Brandon King is overdue, Ross Taylor is overdue, Nicholas Pooran is overdue and Sherfane Rutherford is overdue. Adds that with 4 batters overdue, you need not panic. Further says that they do not want to peak now, but rather do that in the final stages of the tournament. On the positives, he observes the bowling under pressure but wants his batsmen to build partnerships and learn from every game.
Jamaica Tallawahs skipper, Rovman Powell, says that he is very disappointed as 120 is a very easy score to chase. On the surface, Powell says that to be honest, there was something in it but both teams batted poorly. On the positives, he looks at Andre Russell's return to form and the bowlers doing well. Is happy with his spinners and hopes that they continue to do well.
NAVEEN-UL-HAQ HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He thanks the almighty for helping him do well. Admits that it was a tough wicket to bat on, with the surface sticking and turning, so if he could hang around to take the team to around 120, they could win. Believes that he is lucky to have got a chance to bowl the crucial 19th over to Andre Russell. On his thoughts about becoming an all-rounder, Naveen says that he is trying really hard to improve his batting.
Here comes the presentation...
Everyone bowled well for the Warriors but how cool is the duo of Naveen-ul-Haq and Keemo Paul? They were fantastic at the death, especially when Andre Russell was going berserk. Russell faced 11 balls in the last 2 overs and could score only 16 runs. At 22 needed from 10 balls, one felt it was game on but the Warriors just upped their ante at that moment.
After the fall of Rovman Powell, Russell decided to go for broke. He was on 0 from 6 then. And the Tallawahs needed 69 from 35 balls. He ended up scoring 52 of those and his side lost by 14 runs!
Green unleashed the spinners from ball 1 onto the Tallawahs. Every bowler he used, struck gold. Just one seamer had bowled in the first 10 overs. The Tallawahs were stifled. They were 3 down for 4, tried to get a partnership, only to get more stuck in a mire. They kept losing wickets, entering a hopeless situation, till that man, Andre Russell came along.
Got to have exceeding amount of self-confidence and belief if you felt that you could defend 118. But on a track which assisted spin, Chris Green played his cards really well. The Caribbean Premier League recognized his captaincy skills a couple of years back and here, every ounce of it was on display.
Unbelievable. Guyana Amazon Warriors have defended the lowest total ever in the CPL. Who would have thought? Definitely no one, even in the neutral camp, if he knew that the batting line-up consisted of Walton, Phillips, Powell, Asif, Brathwaite and Russell!

SIX! TONK! Over to the moon and back! A 37-ball 50 for Andre Russell. But in a losing cause. Landed on middle, probably the length Russell was searching all over. He gets it, right in his slot and swings it over long on! But GUYANA AMAZON WARRIORS WIN BY 14 RUNS!

Is that the game? A low full toss, outside off, searching for the yorker, Dre Russ swings it towards deep mid-wicket. The fielder comes running in, cannot take the catch but stops the boundary!

Right. Let's count the sixes now. 21 needed from 5. Outside off, Edwards just taps it towards point and scampers off for a single.
Keemo Paul will bowl the final over. 3-0-26-1 so far. Can he keep Edwards on strike?

A dot ball! Fidel Edwards will be on strike in the final over then. Perfect delivery from Naveen. Wide yorker outside off, AR reaches out but cannot touch it. Sensational comeback from the 20-year old. 10 from the first 2 balls, none from the last 4. 4-0-22-1 he finishes with.
