104/7 (20.0/20)
Guyana Amazon Warriors beat Jamaica Tallawahs by 14 runs
Cricket is a funny game, ain't it? Some days, even 200 cannot be defended. And on others, 118 gets defended. Guyana have jumped to the top with this amazing win and will come in with full confidence on Sunday, 23rd August, 2020 which sees another double header - Knight Riders meeting Tridents, followed by the Warriors-Zouks clash. The action begins from 10 am local (1400 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious Guyana Amazon Warriors captain, Chris Green, says that they were very positive during the break, even though they were 10-15 runs light with the bat. But they believed a special bowling performance could deliver the win and they got it. Praises the debutant Ashmead Nedd for holding his head in a pressure game. Is not too worried about his batsmen not getting the runs with detailing that Brandon King is overdue, Ross Taylor is overdue, Nicholas Pooran is overdue and Sherfane Rutherford is overdue. Adds that with 4 batters overdue, you need not panic. Further says that they do not want to peak now, but rather do that in the final stages of the tournament. On the positives, he observes the bowling under pressure but wants his batsmen to build partnerships and learn from every game.
Jamaica Tallawahs skipper, Rovman Powell, says that he is very disappointed as 120 is a very easy score to chase. On the surface, Powell says that to be honest, there was something in it but both teams batted poorly. On the positives, he looks at Andre Russell's return to form and the bowlers doing well. Is happy with his spinners and hopes that they continue to do well.
NAVEEN-UL-HAQ HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He thanks the almighty for helping him do well. Admits that it was a tough wicket to bat on, with the surface sticking and turning, so if he could hang around to take the team to around 120, they could win. Believes that he is lucky to have got a chance to bowl the crucial 19th over to Andre Russell. On his thoughts about becoming an all-rounder, Naveen says that he is trying really hard to improve his batting.
Here comes the presentation...
Everyone bowled well for the Warriors but how cool is the duo of Naveen-ul-Haq and Keemo Paul? They were fantastic at the death, especially when Andre Russell was going berserk. Russell faced 11 balls in the last 2 overs and could score only 16 runs. At 22 needed from 10 balls, one felt it was game on but the Warriors just upped their ante at that moment.
After the fall of Rovman Powell, Russell decided to go for broke. He was on 0 from 6 then. And the Tallawahs needed 69 from 35 balls. He ended up scoring 52 of those and his side lost by 14 runs!
Green unleashed the spinners from ball 1 onto the Tallawahs. Every bowler he used, struck gold. Just one seamer had bowled in the first 10 overs. The Tallawahs were stifled. They were 3 down for 4, tried to get a partnership, only to get more stuck in a mire. They kept losing wickets, entering a hopeless situation, till that man, Andre Russell came along.
Got to have exceeding amount of self-confidence and belief if you felt that you could defend 118. But on a track which assisted spin, Chris Green played his cards really well. The Caribbean Premier League recognized his captaincy skills a couple of years back and here, every ounce of it was on display.
Unbelievable. Guyana Amazon Warriors have defended the lowest total ever in the CPL. Who would have thought? Definitely no one, even in the neutral camp, if he knew that the batting line-up consisted of Walton, Phillips, Powell, Asif, Brathwaite and Russell!

Naveen-ul-Haq To Rovman Powell OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Chris Green is pumped up. He has got his opposite number. A set batsman is gone. A short ball, outside off, Powell is walking down the track and is seen hopping to pull. He does not get enough on it and miscues it towards long on. His counterpart Chris Green gets across to his left from long on and takes the catch. He then leaps and throws the ball in the air in jubilation. Disappointing shot from Powell. That fascination of going to the shorter side of the boundary has consumed many a batsmen. This one was dragged from wide outside off. 69 more needed from 35 balls.

DRINKS BREAK. Well, we have got a game on now. The Warriors have bossed this first half of this run chase and have created some sort of a pressure on the Tallawahs. From a match point of view, a required rate of 8 will not make much of a difference, but just that they lost 4 wickets inside 10 overs might just put some doubts in their mind. Just one over bowled by a pacer so far. How will Russell and Powell play now? Counter-attack? Normal cricket? Defensive cricket?

More theatrics from Tahir. Another wrong 'un, darted on middle, missing the bat, hitting the pad but going down leg. Tahir appeals and appeals but the umpire is pretty firm.

Ashmead Nedd To Glenn Phillips OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! That is a screamer from Keemo Paul. Ashmead Nedd, on CPL debut, strikes on his very first ball. Short and outside off, Phillips looks to cut and does so. It appears like it is in the gap but Paul at cover point races to his left, leaps, stretches out his right hand and grabs it! Sometimes, the best way to deal with attack is to counter-attack. Phillips tried that but just got a top edge which ballooned!
Ashmead Nedd is given the ball now.

Chris Green To Nkrumah Bonner OUT!
OUT! LBW! Oh dear... Bonner is not going to like that. There has been excessive appealing from the Warriors and this one is a result of that. Short ball, outside off, Bonner looked to pull but missed. The ball spun in, bounced and hit him round about the waist line. Green cleared his throat in an appeal, the umpire took his time but then raised his finger. Comfortably going over the top.

IS THAT A CATCH? Nope. A full toss, outside off, Phillips looks to drive but the ball takes the outside edge, goes onto the ground and then into the hands of Ross Taylor at first slip. There is a massive appeal but the umpire turns it down.

Chris Green To Chadwick Walton OUT!
OUT! LBW! A golden duck for Walton. His nightmare continues this CPL. 2 and 0 in the previous games and a golden duck here. The arm ball from Green, Walton looked to defend but the ball skid through before the willow could come down. The pads were pinged, up went Green and up went the umpire's finger.
We are back for the run chase. 119 to win for the Tallawahs. Out come their openers - Glenn Phillips and Chadwick Walton. Chris Green will start off proceedings for the innings. Walton to face. Here we go...
