That is it from today. The highly unpredictable side has toppled the tournament favorites. Kudos to Pakistan for bouncing back after suffering a massive defeat against their arch rivals. Tomorrow it's the battle of another Asian Giants - India vs Bangladesh in Birmingham for the second semifinal. Whoever wins is another thing, but one thing is guaranteed. It will be two teams from the subcontinent fighting it out in the finals. Will India storm through yet again or will the Tigers cause an upset? Join us at 1030 local (0930 GMT) to find out. Until next time, it's goodbye from us. Cheers!
Pakistan skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed thanks the Almighty first. Credits his bowlers for doing the job. Lauds Rumman Raees for filling in the shoes of Amir. Thanks the team management for backing them after a disappointing loss against India. On the toss, he opines they knew how the pitch would play and hence the decision. Further adds he told the boys to play freely. On the possibility of an India-Pakistan semifinal, he replies that both Bangladesh and India are playing some good cricket and they would not mind facing any of them. On how important is Hasan Ali's contribution to them? He praises him by saying that he is very energetic and an impressive bowler. Feels he is a wicket-taker and hopes that he delivers yet again in the finals.
England skipper, Eoin Morgan says they did not adapt to the conditions coming from Edgbaston. Credits Pakistan for doing so and outclassing them. Admits they did not manage to adjust to the wicket and feels 200 wasn't a competitive one, 250-260 would have been. On what he feels regarding the used pitch, he opines that's how the tournament is. Adds they would look to learn from such defeats. Ends by saying adapting to the conditions in a knockout game is very important and that they will be learning from this.
Man of the Match, Hasan Ali thanks the Almighty first. He says his last three overs were not good enough against India, but credits Azhar Mahmood to help him work on his bowling. Says that he will cherish the wicket of Eoin Morgan the most. He finishes by dedicating the award to his brother who has his birthday tomorrow.
England will be really bewailed with their performance today. They were clear favorites to win this one but who would have thought they would be befuddled in all the departments today. Their batsmen didn't get going while their bowlers too couldn't create much of an impact as they didn't have much to defend. As a result, once again after getting so close to lifting the trophy, they have been knocked out. Stay tuned for the presentation...
Azhar Ali was happy to play the second fiddle in the opening partnership but once he got his eye in, he started to fire as well. The duo accounted for the 118-run first wicket stand and set the tone for the chase. Both scored their fifties but Zaman departed immediately after that. However, this time Pakistan didn't slip. Azhar Ali stood there with Babar Azam and continued the good work. Mohammad Hafeez towards the end provided the finishing touch and took his team over the line.
Pakistan dressing room erupts in joy! Coach Mickey Arthur, skipper Sarfraz Ahmed are all pumped up. This shows how much this win means to them. They have knocked out the hosts and boy, they did so in an emphatic manner. After winning the toss and putting England into bat, their bowlers did a fabulous job to restrict them to a low total. The odds were in their favour and a good start was what they needed. Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali started off in an electric manner and provided them exactly that.
