Right, then! That's it from us. England have gotten off to a winning start in this tournament and flaunted their dominance over the Bangladeshis. We had a good game today, and we have another one for you tomorrow. It's a big one as Australia take on New Zealand at Edgbaston at 1030 local (0930 GMT). Do join us for it. Till then, cheers!
Eoin Morgan says when the guys bat like that it's easier to chase down big targets. Applauds Joe Root and Alex Hales who played magnificently well. Credits Root and mentions that he has scored a lot of runs in the last couple of years and he continues to do that. Adds he wants to lead from the front in this tournament and highlights it's important to start well, which is what they've done. After 25 overs, thought his team controlled and minimized the damage and as a result, the game never got taken away from them, which is a credit to the bowlers. (On Adil Rashid) Says they did not miss him, which is a testament to his players. States Chris Woakes is the biggest concern and he'll have a scan later, Root has a niggle so they'll assess everything later. Ends by saying they'll be keeping an eye on the Australia-New Zealand game tomorrow.
Mashrafe Mortaza says that it was a good total but on this wicket it was a touch short. Adds that in the middle overs, they couldn't get the wickets and applauds Joe Root for his performance. Mentions that it's fine when the new batsmen take time to settle in but at the death, they should have added some more runs. Informs that the main bowlers need to step up and they might have some thinking to do ahead of the next match on playing an extra bowler. On Morgan's catch by Iqbal, he feels that the third umpire knows better and his decision is the final one.
Man of the Match, Joe Root says that there's a lot of confidence in the dressing room. Adds that they never doubted themselves to chase this total down. Mentions that wickets in hand was the key and wanted one of the top four to play through. Informs that the ankle is alright but it's more of a calf issue and hopes that it's just a bad cramp.
Bangladesh had a decent score on the board to begin with. Their bowlers would have had to come up with something special to get something out of this game but the comfortable asking rate didn't put any kind of pressure on the English batsmen and they took their time to cruise along to victory. Plenty to ponder for them, need to regroup fast as this tournament doesn't offer much time.
Can't say it wasn't expected. England do possess one of the strongest batting line-ups in the world and they showed that today. 306 wasn't that hard but not that simple either. Jason Roy departed early but then the next two partnerships finished things off. Hales and Root with a 159-run stand, then Root and Morgan with an unbeaten partnership of 143. Root went on to score a ton while the other two made stunning fifties, with Hales just missing out on a ton by 5 runs.
