A win after a 5-day break for Delhi Capitals, who get another 5-day break before their next game! They head to Chepauk to take on the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, 5th April, 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, reeling from back-to-back losses, need to get their campaign back on track, as they head to Eden Gardens next, on Thursday, 3rd April, 2025. That's all we have from this game but don't go anywhere, as the next clash of this double header Super Sunday is on its heels! Chennai Super Kings have elected to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. Head over to that matchcentre for all the action! ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Delhi Capitals' MITCHELL STARC HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his first-ever 5-fer in the IPL. Smiles and calls it a good day for him and his side. Laughs on being asked whether bowlers need to leave their ego at home while playing in the IPL, countering that these days, in any T20, bowlers do not have any ego left! But on a serious note, Starc says that in today's age, bowlers need to accept that they will go for runs and as long as they don't swerve away from their plans, they will pick up wickets. Stresses that one has to keep on thinking out of the box to keep being effective in T20 cricket, so he was just trying to change his pace and lengths to stay effective. Calls his experience with DC as a fantastic one, getting opportunities to gel around with a new and young group and is excited to keep working with them.
The victorious skipper of Delhi Capitals, AXAR PATEL, smiles on his captaincy skills but is serious to add that there was some good planning done before the game. Details that one always need to be on his toes to do well in the IPL, adding that the focus was to maintain DC's process, rather than focussing on what SRH will try to do. On giving the extra over to Mitchell Starc, Axar says that initially, the plan was to give only 2 overs to Starc in the Powerplay, but because he was bowling well, Axar thought of going for the kill with the extra over and it worked with the wicket of Travis Head. Feels lucky to have plenty of experienced players in the DC camp who have also led the team in the past, stressing that he is enjoying his captaincy under their experience. On the switch now to their original home venue, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Axar says that the plan will be to first look at the wicket and then decide what to do.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Delhi Capitals' TRISTAN STUBBS is up for a chat now. Stubbs says that the surface looked a little bit slow and spinning. Adds that the cutters were working for the bowlers, so it was definitely not the easiest pitch to bat. On SRH going bonkers at the halfway mark in the first innings, Stubbs says that the bowlers got together and decided to be accurate and conserve their energy in the field. Praises Faf du Plessis and the newcomers for doing well, hoping to continue their progress. Admits that he is trying his level best to extract as much knowledge as possible from team mentor Kevin Pietersen.
The skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad, PAT CUMMINS, says that his team lost a few early wickets, but not all were bad shots. Adds that a run out and a couple of catches were taken at the fence which could have been otherwise but that happens in cricket. Further says that everything went their way in the first game but it was the opposite in the next two. Details that maybe looking back, they could have done some things differently. Credits Aniket Verma for his knock and says that he took them to a score that gave them half a chance. Ends by saying that the players have shown flashes of brilliance and they will not change much for the upcoming games.
Earlier, in the first innings, Sunrisers Hyderabad came out all guns blazing to try and blast DC out of the game but just kept on losing wickets. Barring a counterattacking stand of 77 between Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen, which saw Klaasen make 32 and Aniket end up with 74, the batting fell apart at either end, as Mitchell Starc razed SRH to the ground with his maiden IPL 5-fer, going on to take the Purple Cap provisionally. He was supported well by Kuldeep Yadav, who claimed 3 wickets.
This game was a contest between a power-packed batting lineup and a strong bowling attack. The experienced attack of DC set the foundation in the first innings and that allowed the weak batting lineup to chase the total fairly easily. Jake Fraser-McGurk is still looking out of sorts but Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel ensured that there was no big hiccup as such. These are still early days, so if the DC management sort out their batting lineup, they will figure out a way to post decent totals with the bat as well.
164 was a competitive target to chase on a pitch which had variable pace but by no means, was it matchwinning. To make a case for themselves, SRH needed wickets in the Powerplay but they never came. The chances were created but the fielders let the bowlers down. The opening partnership was finally broken on 81 which led to a mini collapse but water had already flown under the bridge by then. Zeeshan Ansari with his three wickets and Harshal Patel with his tight bowling were the only bright spots in a glum day for the Sunrisers.
Comprehensive win for Delhi Capitals and they rocket to second spot in the points table. With back-to-back losses, Sunrisers Hyderabad slip down to 7th. The bowlers set the win up for the Capitals, who are showcasing tremendous bowling depth in the 2 games that they have played.
