Right then, that is it from the final game of the league stage and Delhi wins this by 7 wickets. The next game of the Women's T20 League will be Eliminiator 1 and that will be played between Bangalore and Mumbai on 15th March at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Join us an hour early for the pre-match build-up. Until then, stay safe and enjoy your time. Cheers!
Shafali Verma is the Player of the Match for her knock of 71 runs. She says that it feels good to contribute and she was enjoying her batting. Adds that she was just playing down the ground and she was just backing her strengths. She says that she was in good touch and was looking to finish the innings but couldn't do so and she's a bit disappointed for that. Ends by saying that she gives her best in whatever way she can.
Meg Lanning, the skipper of Delhi, says that it was excellent from Verma. She just makes it look easy and it feels good to watch her. Adds that they are working according to their plans and that it feels good to be in the finals. She says that it is an advantage to play the finals directly and ends by saying that they will do their best in the finals.
Presentations coming up...
Pacer from Delhi, Shikha Pandey is up for a chat she says they are happy with the balance of the squad. Adds that they had plans and executed them well especially the spinners. Mentions that every player has a role and they are performing it quite well. Credits Shafali Verma for her knock and says that when she is in such a mood it gets difficult to bowl against her.
The skipper of Gujarat, Beth Mooney is up for a chat. She says they will take a lot of positives from this game and the tournament despite being outplayed. Adds that some players have shown what they are made up of with brilliant performances and displayed their fighting spirits. Credits Shabnam Shakil for the puts in and mentions that she feels that she has all it takes to go big. She concludes by saying she feels happy to be with the squad but they need to deliver and they will be looking for a more competitive performance from them next time around.
Earlier in the game, after electing to bat first, Gujarat did not get the start they were looking for and lost half of their side at just 48 in the 11th over. It was then for Bharti Fulmali and Kathryn Bryce to knit a partnership of 68 for the sixth wicket and keep them in the game. The duo helped the side post a fighting total on a track that had a bit of grip and bounce. For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey and Minnu Mani picked up a couple each while Jess Jonassen took one as well.
The wasn't much from the bowlers of Gujarat despite those couple of early wickets. The bowlers tried their best but the target wasn't big enough and the boundaries weren't big either as Shafali Verma cleared them for fun. Tanuja Kanwer got two wickets and that was all it from the bowlers of Gujarat.
Clinical Delhi seals the top spot as they defeat Gujarat by 7 wickets and they now will head directly to the Finals of the Women's T20 League, 2024! Chasing down a low total, Delhi were off to flying colors as both openers scored freely and gave the side a blistering start. Delhi managed to score 45 losing 2 wickets in the powerplay. Skipper Meg Lanning was looking good but she was runout while Alice Capsey chipped one straight to the fielder. Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma then batted well together and cruised to the total. Shafali Verma fell in the very end but made sure the job was well done for her side!
