What's next on the menu? We keep moving forward, and it's the first double header of the season lined up on Saturday, 4th April. The day starts with Delhi Capitals hosting Mumbai Indians, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). After that, the action shifts to Ahmedabad with the Gujarat Titans taking on the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Do not forget to tune in early for all the buildup and analysis. Until then, we sign off. Cheers!
CSK outplayed in their backyard - Two defeats in two games leave the Super Kings rooted to the bottom of the table, with plenty of introspection ahead. There were certainly positives in their batting approach tonight, but they will need to tighten up significantly with their bowling plans and raise their standards in the field as well. The challenge only elevates for them as they face the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, on Sunday, 5th March, at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). For Punjab Kings, they sit crowned at the top for now, and will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Monday, 6th April, with the first ball scheduled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT).
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Priyansh Arya, for his impactful 39 off just 11 balls, receives the award. On his fearless batting approach and whether it’s been natural or shaped by the demands of the game, Arya says it has largely been his style from the beginning, adding that he plays in a way that ultimately benefits the team. On his approach of taking on the first ball and whether it carries too much risk, Arya explains that there is always some risk involved, but he backs his ability. Adds that if he feels he can hit the first ball, he doesn't hesitate to go for it. On his journey from the Delhi Premier League to the IPL, Arya says that there is a step up in quality, noting that the presence of highly experienced bowlers at this level makes it more challenging. On his practice routine, Arya says he trains rigorously, adding that he bats twice a day in two dedicated sessions.
The victorious captain of the Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer shares that the start was exceptional, with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh setting the tone up front. Adds that their approach helps the side settle into a strong rhythm early on. Mentions that everyone getting a chance to bat in the first couple of matches is a positive. Iyer highlights Arya's blistering 39 off 11 as the kind of start required when chasing 210. Believes that the over-rate is something the team needs to be mindful of, as having just 4 fielders outside the inner circle for the last 2 overs can prove costly. Shreyas points out how well Shivam Dube matches up against spin, which is why he did not turn to Yuzvendra Chahal, but adds that whenever he is in doubt, Chahal remains his go-to option.
... Time for the Presentation ceremony ...
Here's the Orange Cap holder for a chat - PBKS' Cooper Connolly wears the cap. Says it’s still early days in the tournament and he’s focused on putting his best foot forward to help the team win. Adds that it’s a long competition and while he’s pleased with the start, there’s still a long way to go. On his role in the side, he mentions that it’s about making the most of the final overs of the Powerplay if he gets in early, while also trying to control the innings before shifting gears. Speaking about the team environment, he says it hasn’t felt too different, with several Australian teammates helping him settle in, and adds that he’s looking forward to learning from them as the tournament progresses. On his bowling, he says he hopes to have the ball in hand soon and is eager to showcase his skills.
The captain of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad feels that it was a really good score, given the boundary dimensions and the way the slower balls were gripping. Shares that since they had 3 seamers already, they felt that Rahul Chahar and Noor Ahmad would form a good pairing in the middle phase, which is why they brought in Chahar as the impact sub. The CSK captain feels that they couldn't really build the pressure with the ball. Adds that at one point, the required run rate climbed to 11, but they could not take it up further. Believes that there were a lot of positives with the bat and praises the way Ayush Mhatre and Shivam Dube batted. Gaikwad admits there is a lot to improve on the bowling front. Reflecting on his innings, he says the plan was to hang in and then cash in later, but he got out at the wrong time.
Sarpanch's knockout punch - From the moment Shreyas Iyer, aka the Sarpanch, walked in, he looked in complete control. Timing it sweetly and placing it with precision, he steadily took the game away from CSK with a series of elegant, authoritative strokes, anchoring the chase with poise. His swashbuckling 50 off just 29 helped the Punjab Kings to get close. However, a couple of wickets did fall coming into the climax, but the target set by the hosts was not adequate.
A bit of up and down in the middle phase - Prabhsimran Singh carried the intent into the middle overs, keeping the scoreboard ticking, but an unexpected run-out briefly stalled the charge. The pitch offered some grip, allowing the spinners to keep things quiet at times. However, CSK’s bowling plans didn’t quite come together, with the execution falling short, and their inability to strike regularly allowed the incoming batters time to settle.
Arya’s blitz sets the tone - Chasing a target in excess of 200, Priyansh Arya came out all guns blazing, tearing into the attack with a breathtaking burst. His 39 off just 11 balls laid a stunning platform for Punjab Kings. With no dew to aid the chase and just a hint of sideways movement on offer, PBKS racing to 68/1 at the end of the Powerplay firmly tilted the early momentum in their favour.
An improved batting display - It was a power-packed outing from CSK, batting-wise, and a complete contrast to their showing in Guwahati earlier in the week. The intent was there right from the Powerplay. Though Samson couldn’t quite find top gear, Ayush Mhatre lit up the innings with a knock full of fluency and fearlessness, steering CSK into a commanding position, which allowed Gaikwad to play his natural game in that 96-run alliance. Shivam Dube, too, took his time to find rhythm, but once he did, he shifted gears ominously towards the back end, ensuring the momentum never dipped. Yet, the real glue of the innings came in that crucial middle phase, where CSK was reduced from 110/1 to 130/4. Sarfaraz’s proactive cameo injected exactly the kind of impetus CSK needed to turn a good platform into a formidable launchpad. In the end, it all added up to a total north of 200 for the men in yellow.
The Kings from Punjab crush the Super Kings - A 200-plus run chase made to look absolutely easy to the eyes from the Punjab Kings. As per Ian Bishop on air, this is Punjab Kings' 9th successful 200-plus run chase, which is the most by any team in the history of the IPL. He also mentions that CSK have now lost six games in a row at a venue which, once upon a time, was their fortress. Two games in, and there are plenty of problems for the Super Kings already. In the first game, it was their batting that gave underwhelming returns. This time around, it was their bowling that was taken to the cleaners.

Anshul Kamboj To Marcus Stoinis
FOUR! Hit with real authority! Punjab Kings ace the chase of 210 with 8 balls to spare. Full and on the off stump, Stoinis uses the depth of the crease to get under the ball. He swings through the line and drills it back over the bowler's head. The long off fielder stands no chance of cutting it off as the ball skips across the turf.

Anshul Kamboj To Shashank Singh
Full, on the pads. Shashank Singh nurdles it behind square leg for a single. 4 more required for PBKS.

Anshul Kamboj To Shashank Singh
Wide! Kamboj varies his length as he bangs it in short. The line is a bit too straight and he is lucky to get away with it. Shashank Singh walks inside the line of the ball and swings to get it away behind square leg but misses. Wide given by the umpire, but Ruturaj Gaikwad reviews the on-field call after consultation with Sanju Samson. The UltraEdge shows a flat line. The wide call stays.

Anshul Kamboj To Shashank Singh
Full and on middle. Shashank brings his wrists into play and flicks it to the left of deep square leg for a brace.

Anshul Kamboj To Shashank Singh
FOUR! Superb placement! Anshul Kamboj goes searching for the wide yorker but it comes out as a low full toss, outside off. Singh extends his hands and angles the bat face to place the drive to the right of the man at deep point for a four.
Just a matter of two big hits then? PBKS need 12 from 12 balls. Anshul Kamboj (3-0-31-2) to bowl the 19th over.

Matt Henry To Shashank Singh
FOUR! That's the risk involved with the wide line. On a length, going across. Shashank Singh flashes and flashes hard. The ball flies off the outer half over the man at short third for a boundary.

2
Matt Henry To Shashank Singh
Falls safely between the two fielders! Henry continues the wide line ploy on a length. Shashank Singh, predicting the line, walks across the stumps and swings at it. Gets it right off the toe end of the blade over cover. The deep point fielder runs across to his right, and the fielder inside the circle also converges, but the ball drops between them. Two runs taken.

Matt Henry To Marcus Stoinis
Very full, outside off. Stoinis digs it out. Henry gets across to his left on the follow-through but fails to cut it off. They cross.

Matt Henry To Marcus Stoinis
FOUR! Streaky, but they all count! Running across the right-hander, on a length. Stoinis gets low and looks to smash it through the off side. The ball leaves him with the angle to take the outside edge but it goes well wide of the man at short third and the fielder at deep backward point is also beaten.
Out goes Nehal Wadhera and in walks Marcus Stoinis. CSK have a sniff.

Matt Henry To Nehal Wadhera OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Two wickets in two balls and two set batters are gone. Henry delivers it on a wide line, far outside off, full in length. Nehal Wadhera takes a couple of baby steps forward and tries to slap it over covers, but ends up mistiming it off the toe end. Slices the ball flatly to the cover fielder, where Noor Ahmad takes a fine catch. PBKS are 186/5.
Is it too little too late for the Super Kings? Or is there any other twist left in the game? Shashank Singh walks in at number 6.

Anshul Kamboj To Shreyas Iyer OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! The wide line finally works for Anshul Kamboj. Full and pushed across the right-hander. Iyer reaches out to go big on the off side. He does not get the desired distance and hits it down the throat of deep cover, where Rahul Chahar runs in off the ropes and takes the catch. The Punjab Kings are 186/4, needing 24 runs from 18 balls.

Full again, around off. Shreyas goes deep in the crease and has a swipe across the line but connects with thin air.

Anshul Kamboj To Shreyas Iyer
Oh, not far away from crashing into the leg stump. It would not have mattered even if the ball had hit the timber as Anshul Kamboj has overstepped. Around leg, very full, Iyer walks inside the line but misses out on the glance. NO BALL called. Free Hit coming up.

4
Anshul Kamboj To Shreyas Iyer
FOUR! Not where Iyer intended but he will take it. That brings up the 28th IPL half-century for the PBKS skipper. He gets there in 26 balls. Full and wide on off. Iyer throws his hands at the ball. Get a thickish outside edge that flies fine of the man at deep backward point. Shreyas has looked in complete control tonight.
