Okay! A not so Super Saturday as Bangladesh crush Sri Lanka in a one-sided affair. We will not promise for a Super Sunday either but definitely hope for one as Hong Kong take on Pakistan in the second game at 1530 local (1130 GMT). Do join us then. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Mushfiqur Rahim IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his wonderful century. He limps while taking the award. Credits the almighty for giving him the strength to bat through the heat. Stresses that it was very difficult to run through the wickets but he somehow managed. Adds that he is really happy with this knock as even though Bangladesh won in their previous ODI series in West Indies, he did not do much with the bat. So tonight, he is happy to have contributed to the team's cause.
Victorious Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, thanks Rahim and Mithun for batting well under pressure. Says that he can say only one thing for Tamim - 'People should remember him.' Hopes his side maintains this momentum in its next game. Admits that the unit can definitely do better - for example, losing wickets in clusters can be avoided and players like Mohammad Mithun should be carrying on to bat deeper once set. He stresses that had Mithun batted longer, 280 could have been achieved. Then thanks the crowd in Bangla, for its unparalleled support. Hopes that the fans will continue to come out in large numbers and get behind them.
Sri Lankan captain, Angelo Mathews, admits that it was a bad effort from the whole team. Rues the fact that they had Bangladesh 3 down for 2 but then they let them off the hook. Credits his opposition though for batting well and laments his own team's effort. On using Malinga upfront, Angelo does not feel that he should be used only at the death. Blames poor shot selection from his batsmen as the reason for the loss. Agrees that there was no rotation of the strike either, especially in the first 10 overs.
It was a complete team effort with the ball by Bangladesh. Skipper Mortaza took 2 wickets while Mustafizur and Mehidy grabbed a couple each as well. Every bowler who bowled got a wicket. THIS IS BANGLADESH'S BIGGEST WIN IN THE ASIA CUP IN TERMS OF RUNS, beating their previous best of 116 against Hong Kong, in Colombo in 2004. Please stay tuned for the presentation if you have come up so far to read...
In reply, when Tharanga hit a six and a four in the first over, it seemed like it is going to be an easy run chase. But once the opening stand was broken, the Bangladeshi bowlers just ran through. We hardly witnessed any fightback and when your number 7 is your highest scorer, that too, with a 29, there is nothing much to write.
The start was brilliant. Comeback man Malinga showed that age is just a number and has no connection with rustiness as he first took two wickets in his first over, then injured Tamim Iqbal to have Bangladesh reeling. However, we then witnessed one of the best fightbacks produced by Bangladesh. They did lose their way towards the end but the moment of the game was Tamim Iqbal coming out to bat with a broken wrist. The momentum took Bangladesh to a competitive 261. Not to mention about Sri Lanka's dropped catches. Had those been taken, Bangladesh might have well folded up inside 150.
What a sad opener for a super-hyped tournament. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh was touted to be a cracker. Bangladesh not having won a single ODI in the Middle East. The Lankans not having lost even a game to Bangladesh at neutral venues. Well, a damp squib as eventually we were caught asking - 'when will this match end?'

Shakib Al Hasan To Amila Aponso OUT!
OUT! Dropped, dropped, dropped, dropped but eventually caught. Sri Lanka's misery is over. Bangladesh have thumped them by 137 runs. Flighted outside off, Aponso comes down the track and looks to go over mid on but the ball goes off the toe end of his bat. It loops towards the substitute Nazmul Hossain Shanto who fumbles quite a number of times before finally holding on.

OUT! The frustrating stand finally ends. Tossed up outside off, Dilruwan comes down the track and expects the ball to spin in. But this one holds its line and goes past the outside edge. Easy stumping for Liton Das.

DRINKS BREAK. Didn't think we will get this far. But not that it is hurting Bangladesh much. Unless they have a 1-1-1 scenario where they lose to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka beat the Afghans. Then, the net run-rate might come into play. So, if the Lankans manage to creep upto 200 (yawn), you never know...
