That is it from this game. The action now moves to the Gabba for the 2nd T20I. Australia will head to Brisbane with a lot of confidence whereas Sri Lanka will hope for a better showing. Join us for the 2nd T20I on 30th October, Wednesday. That match will begin at 1810 local (0810 GMT). Till then, adios!
No prizes for guessing who the Man of the Match is. For his brilliant ton on his 33rd birthday, the Man of the Match is David Warner. Warner admits it means a lot to get his maiden T20I hundred but thinks it was more important to contribute for the team. Feels it was a very good score and was always going to be tough to chase it in Australia. Warner says sometimes it is difficult to rotate strike so he and Finch planned to go hard against the new ball. On being asked about the trouble Nuwan Pradeep caused him, Warner feels he is a world class Test bowler but he has also worked hard on his death bowling in white ball cricket. Warner tells that when there is time off cricket then one can forget about how busy the cricketing schedule is. Tells they always get good support in Australia and they thrive on that.
Australian skipper, Aaron Finch is next up for a chat. Finch tells it was a great start and credits the way Warner and Maxwell played. Adds the spinners were good too as the Lankans are good players of spin. Finch tells they were looking to play to their strengths and feels they have a lot of fire power with the bat and they backed themselves. On what can be improved, Finch feels that their execution with the ball is the area that can be improved.
First up it is the Sri Lankan skipper, Lasith Malinga. Malinga says that their bowling went wrong as the bowlers did not know what lines and lengths to bowl. Adds that this is a learning experience as they had no experience to play on drop-in wickets. Further states that they will look to the positives instead of the negatives. Adds that they will look at this series to assess the conditions before the T20 World Cup. Adds that the pitches used are drop-in pitches but that is no excuse to play like this.
Stay tuned for the presentation as we have word with both the captains and also with the Man of the Match.
Pat Cummins is up next for a chat. Cummins says that it was a nice feeling to win by this big margin and he is happy to get a win to start off with. Tells that they are always trying to improve their game especially the death bowling. Adds that he practices the slower ball and the yorker a lot. On Warner, Cummins says he was brilliant today and he has been hitting the ball brilliantly in the nets.
Mitchell Starc is up now for an interview. Starc says that it is a lovely start to the summer and Pat Cummins was very good with the ball. Further says that there is a bit of work to do with fielding but overall a good day. On the run out with Maxwell, Starc says that he does this most of the times and is very happy with the performance.
Earlier in the day Australia managed to get a massive score of 234, courtesy of a magnificent debut ton by birthday boy, David Warner. Finch and Maxwell too were brilliant with both scoring powering fifties.
Australia continued the momentum from the first innings and were outstanding with the ball. Only Kane Richardson was the one who ended the day wicketless. The rest all had at least a wicket to their name. Zampa got 3, Starc and Cummins got 2 wickets each and Agar with one. All in all, it was a superb day for the Aussies.
Nobody expected Sri Lanka to chase down 234 but certainly a fight was expected but they threw in the towel even before they took to the field in their chase. When a team struggles to get past 100 then it is pretty obvious that it was a no show with the bat. There were only two positives to take out from this game for the visitors. One that they managed to win the toss and the second they managed to bat out their 20 overs. Apart from that it was a 'disaster-class'.
A demoralizing loss for the visitors. If they were on cloud nine after their performance in Pakistan they have been now given a very tough and harsh reality check. Terrible with the ball, horrible in the field and atrocious with the bat. That summed up Sri Lanka's day.
A historic day for David Warner and Australia. The have started their home cricketing summer with a bang! Win by a massive margin of 134 runs to begin their T20 World Cup preparations. Making this their biggest margin of win in T20Is in terms of runs.
