So that's it from us. Hope you enjoyed that thrilling contest between these two heavyweights. Don't go anywhere as we have another big one coming up as England take on South Africa in a short while.
The Australian skipper, STEVEN SMITH says he thought 150 was par. Also says their spinner bowled well and they lost wickets which doesn't work in T20s. Adds that there were no partnerships in the middle overs. States that they should have tried to work the ball around instead of the hitting them big but those middle overs were difficult. Ends saying they need to find their rhythm and do better next time.
The New Zealand skipper, KANE WILLIAMSON thinks they are fortunate to play on similar wickets. Says its important to read the conditions and play accordingly and the boys did that well. Further states it is a task at hand and they will try to do their best. (On the secret to how New Zealand defend any kind of totals) He says it is important to try and defend it and sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn't, that's how it works in T20s.
Player of the Match, MITCHELL MCCLENAGHAN says it is nice to perform like that. Adds it's a collective performance and the guys did well to comeback like that. Further says they are feeling confident as they have won two games on the bounce. He says he likes the conditions as it suits him and is enjoying it. Also states the Aussies played well and gives them credit for making it difficult for them. (On the selection) He says they've got a fantastic squad and want to go to Mohali and impress. (On playing against Australia the first time in the World T20) He ends saying that you can get hammered on one day but today he's glad they're the ones on top.
The Australian batsmen never got going. Khawaja was the only one who looked dangerous and he got out in an unfortunate manner. None of the middle order got going. Maxwell and Marsh started well but then departed soon after. It was a rather disappointing performance as this was a target they'd feel they could have chased down.
The Kiwi bowlers got right on top of the match as soon as the Powerplay ended as the spinners weaved their magic once again. They kept things tight and most importantly, kept picking up wickets at regular intervals, never letting the Australian batsmen settle. McClenaghan was the pick of the bowlers as he finished his 3-over spell with 3/17. Anderson and Santner also did well picking up 2 wickets apiece.
What a terrific bowling display here by the Kiwis! They've defended what was relatively a low total on this wicket. They didn't start the innings off well at all as Khawaja was smashing the ball all around the park. And it looked like he would take the game away from them. But a brilliant run out saw his walking and the complexion of the game changed from there.
